Default prop adapters for ggl?

hey, i was wondering if i needed to have a piece that fits on the tapered shaft of the crank when running GGL? could i just run a nut down the threads of the crank for the hub (one from wacker engines) to tighten against? or should i cut out the center of the flywheel. the only thing i dont like about cutting out the center of the flywheel is i have no way of balancing it. i also dont have a drill press, making cutting out the center nearly impossible.
can anyone help me with this?
thanx,

Default RE: prop adapters for ggl?

Relying on only the threaded end of the crankshaft to support prop loads worries me. Some guys have done it on the smaller engines, but I really don't feel comfortable with the idea. I would either do the "cut the center of the flywheel out" trick, or buy a prop hub for use with electronic ignition.

ok, in general, how much is the cut out section out of balance?
and how much do the adapters cost?

Balance would depend on just how concentric your cut out portion is to the center bore. I have used made rough cut outs using either a hole saw or marking and drilling a bunch of small holes around the desire OD perimeter. I then put it in a drill press on a section of crankshaft and filed the circumference.
Once they were smooth I called it good on the balance.

Necessity: MOI These Stanley tools will work aluminum on a drill press. Be careful.
