Default Is this good for a Homelite 30cc?

I have a Homelite 30cc conversion running a Master Airscrew 18x6 and I tached it at 7400 rpm. I'm running 87 octane gas with 40:1 Poulan synthetic oil. I'm using a velocity stack. Does this sound about right on the rpm or should it be stronger? Also, there are 2 needles on the carb, one plastic looking one and skinnier metal one. Which is high and which is low? It already has an excellent idle and transitions really well. Should I even mess with these needles? This is my first conversion. I bought it from a friend, and he had already converted it. Thanks.

Sounds good to me! It may get even higher revs as it breaks in. Capt,n

It's the carb that came on the engine. I'm not sure about the muffler. It's a higher performance muffler that my friend put on it. He had already flown this engine on a couple of planes before I bought it from him. It's the standard flywheel ignition. What about the needles? Should I touch them?

If its running good...why touch the settings. Read all you can and you will find the answer. You can also have other guys that konw engines listen to it. Capt,n

I have the same engine,no velocity stack, was running the sme prop as you and maybe getting the same rpms but dont remember.i bought a 18x6 zinger pro but my tach broke so i havent tested it yet.I would leave the engine alone and just fly it.the inboard screw closest to the engine is idle screw.the other one high.but i wouldnt do a thing to it.i also have a pitts muffler on mine.(my sons actually).installed on a Balsa USA 1/4 scale DVIII.84 ws,14.25 lbs. with engine RTF dry.

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone know how much static thrust I'm getting with this prop and rpm? It's a Master Airscrew 18x6 at 7400rpm.

My Homelite 30 has a old Dynaflite 18-8 prop and it turns at 7500. It has the Walbro WA167 11mm carb from a Zenoah G-23 engine. I haven't touched the needles since the late 90's.

The needle closest to the engine is the low speed. The high speed needle is next to it. There is sometimes a idle speed screw adjacent to the two mixture screws. The two mixture needles are rather inter reactive. One will effect the other to an extent.

Good grief, adjust the needles. Its not a sin to adjust them nor is it a black art. You can return to the settings you have.
Even if you don't gain anything you will know what a poorly adjusted engine sounds like and how it runs.
