Default prop hub flys off!!

my brother and i are getting into this converting any sutible engine we can get our hands on

we had our first ever bench test last night with his little ryobi

he recons the prop hub was on tight, but not to tight as it alimumin and doesnt wanna strip the thread

so away it starts, cool fun!

of coarse it stop when we want it to

but

the prop hub, spinner, and prop didnt and unwound itself stright off as quick as a flash!

luckly everything inculding us where unharmed

so my question is should the prop humbs be lock tighted on or welded or something

maybe it wasnt done up tight enough cos like i said we didnt wanna buggar the thread

I tighten the prop bolt on my Ryobi with a socket and a 6" handle firmly. Also clean the threads and use some red Loctite.

Wow lost the prop hub too. Buggar the threads before you buggar somebody!

This special nut that aalso acts as the prop drive must be put on real tight. The thread will not strip, and it will not need locktite. Just torque it right.

We have a conversion kit for the Ryobi short shaft engines. It screws on and has a matching taper. The fit between the two tapers creates most of the holding torque.

it won't strip the threads unless it is a soft type aluminum, I use some pink stuff that 3m makes it is gasket aliminater and works better than loctight and you can still take it apart.

Put a lockwasher under the hub in combination with loctite. If you still have trouble, tap the hub from the side and add a set screw.

Burling-brad, one thing on hub length is that the longer you make it the more any any out of round or looseness will show up exponentially. It will shake the fillings out of the pilots teeth.
