What is gained by adding more expensive Nitro to gasoline ?

Power is the main Reason ?
Can I remove the Magneto & fan flywheel assembly completly on my water cooled head in a boat ?
Anything other benifits ?
I like to simplify if possible. Homelite, old design.

Pure nitro methane will not mix with gasoline without secondary blending agents. It will separate
Some people blend a smaller amount of model methanol based fuel (that contains some nitro methane) with gasoline in order to sustain glow ignition. This mixture seems to remain stable and not separate.

Yes it will mix and it mixes great. we run what we call gas/glow. For me and otheres it is the only way to go now. YOu get the best of both world of gas and glow and none of there folts

Just to be clearer,
Nitromethane is not the same as calling GlowFuel "Nitro"
GlowFuel that we use with glowplugs is Methanol (+oil+nitromethane)
You can mix glowfuel with gasoline to run without the heavy spark stuff, it is the Methanol that makes the Glowplug do its thing.
I'm no guru, but the sweet mix I see folks using is
2parts gasoline + 1part 'RCCar'GlowFuel(10%oil10%Nitro)
in gasoline engines(weedies) with a glow plug in a plug adptor, if you tune the carb rich enough.
Side benefit for this boat use is that the glow will run a cooler engine than gasoline.

2 parts + 1 part = 3 parts or 33 % per part.
What happened to the the rest of the RC car Methanol part ? 10 % + 10 % + what ?

Well, you could say - one quart of 10/10 glo fuel and 2 quarts of hi test gasoline
Thats the same as saying one part and 2 parts.....
The size of the part can change but all parts must be equal volume such as
1 gallon glo and 2 gallon gas..... see?

RC cars have a fuel sold as ----oil 10%..... Nitromethane 10% ? No one knows or cares what the other 80 % is ? I can live with that, if it is true.

Does the RC car fuel have enough oil when mixed in the 2 gallons of gasoline to 1 gallon of RC car fuel ?

Yes it does, i couldn't get the 10/10 stuff that everyone else is using so i used some 20% nitro 12% oil car fuel and mixed it with the premium gasoline and it works fine in my weedeater on the glowplug setup.

thanks

That would have WAY too much oil. Buy the 10/10 fuel, or buy a gallon of methanol to add to your glow fuel, then mix it as normal with the high test gas. It will be a little light on nitro done that way, but should work ok.

WAAAHOOO ! I am going to do this GlowPlug / 10 %.....10 % fuel stuff.
My Homelite without the magneto or coil will easily give me the pound or 2 for the electric starter and choke. I am going with a water cooled head.
Old brain....What plugs are good on this fuel mixture. Does it need a low voltage for a good idle ? I have a RAM ELECTRONICS RC switch left over.

Make sure you use premium gasoline with your mix as some people have had problems with some regular grades, 10/10 works but i have yet to get some and run 20/12 car/truck fuel, as for the glow plug adapter you can either buy one http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=ZEN23445 or make one out of an old automotive spark plug as shown here on my engine http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...low+conversion
As mentioned above i use a OS type F 4 stroke glow plug and after the engine has started you can remove the glow driver as you would on a normal 2 or 4 stroke glow engine, make sure you check that when the carb is closed all the way the engine will stop, there's no ignition to kill it. Good luck and have fun.
