I had a friend give me a 31cc snapper weed eater engine
the number is S31SNGBC I have never seen a long shaft Ryobi with the muffler held on with a spring.
Can any identify?

Sorry that engine is not a ryobi but a poulan, goto www.dogpile.com or google, whatever and do a search on "snapper S31SNGBC", you will see.

My engine had a long shaft and spring retained muffler, i actually had to cut down the shaft and rethread it, does your engine look like this one http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=793079

No
it has a rear carb like the Ryobi but a rear spring clamped muffler
I'll try and put some pics of it on here the next few days

I had one of these engines out of a Sears leaf blower. I gave it to a friend for his large Tiger Moth biplane. He hasn't finished converting it yet. How is the power on these?? Comparable to Ryobi? Better? Worse?

Thanks,
AV8TOR

I'm new to all this and I have just started to convert these little engines.I do clock work for a living so I have all the small tools and laths to do the work with.but I have no experience as to which is better.I haven't even started this on the glow/gas yet to see how it will do as I haven't purchased the fuel yet.I hope to go to town Monday and get the fuel.the closest hobbie shop is about 50-60 miles form here.I have about six engines that I have converted and made prop hubs for and mounting brackets and haven't started one yet[:@] But I'm having a hole lot of fun and really enjoying my self.
