On a "tall" engine mount like that use a brace going forward at about a 45 degree angle for added strength. On the fuel mix try to use Klotz oil...it is very good in helping methanol & gas mix good. Keep us posted. Best Regards Capt,n

The mount as shown is much sturdier than it looks. I can lift and move the hull via the prop hub without any flex, and it is approx 16lbs. It is reinforced with half inch ply on the inside of the hull.

I have been thinking about using one of these "exotic" oils. If I use them, I will lose the nitro content I need won't I? Please elaborate.[sm=confused.gif]

only thing I want to add is that you might want to look into mechanical lock nuts instead of nyloc nuts on your muffler, I don't think the nylon will live too long

the mount looks like painted steel, right? steel should be rigid enough but I do see where capn is coming from, although I'd be more concerned with the rotational torque not forward/aft with that setup

Thanks for the feedback rangerfredbob. Yes, the mount is painted steel and is quite rigid. I may end up with a top plate to tie it together if it looks too flimsy. Good eye on the nyloc nuts I just could not take the pics without some nice shiny nuts on the muffler

if anything to make it more rigid, I'd just go for a simple cross in the back to tie the two sides together (think like a truss crane), the same would keep it from moving forward if you did it on the sides too, but for that you would just need one from the bottom of the rear to the top of the front to put the material in tension (could just be some simple coat hanger wire)

Where did you get the prop hub? I need one for a 45cc Stihl.

I got it from Mark at brillellicustoms.com. I paid for two machinings, for a great price. The stihl prop hub was custom cut with reverse threads. I sent him the crank to ensure a good hub. He also trued up a keyed flywheel center that I had. He even added the timing ring, though I did not need it. I feel like I robbed the poor guy, and the quality was great. Thanks for the props guys (no pun intended) I could not have done it without your research and contributions.

I ran it this weekend and it was swinging an MA 18x6 @ 10,200 rpm. I think my buddy was as surprised as me at 10,200 R's.
I am guessing it is under propped, but man it sounded good. According to MA site, divide 165K by prop diameter to get max rpm, so I am spinning it 1000 rpm higher than recommended. Is this something to worry about?

I have not tached another prop, so I have no other numbers to compare.

In terms of prop selection, do you think I would get higher speeds with a larger blade and higher pitch at sacrificing rpm? I have a few more props to tach. Got any prop / rpm feedback?

Try a 3 blade 20X8 if available, most 50 to 55CC engines use a 22X8 two blade prop and you are using a 18X6 that's to small in my opinion.
