Default idle problem with 25cc weed eater?

Gasser doesn’t have a reliable idle

I have a 25cc I guess weedeater brand piston port with the spring muffler. Its not a powerhouse but up until now it has run so good I just enjoyed flying it! Now it has an annoying problem. It will not idle reliably. I have a 2/56 metal pushrod and ball connector on the carb same as always so its not a sloppy linkage problem.

On the ground it will idle but in the air when I drop the throttle it doesn’t want to come back to idle unless I lower the throttle trim lower than the minimum reliable idle set on the ground. Here is what happens, When I drop the throttle the engine will not go to the low idle so then I lower the throttle trim until it will idle. It will maintain this idle maybe 10 seconds and then it tries to quit. So I have to constantly chase the throttle to keep it running and keep the rpm down enough to land. Once the trim is this low it doesn’t make any difference if its in the air or on the ground. There are no bubbles in the fuel line either.

I did a run-up test on the ground and adjusted the needles and it didn’t help. On the ground test. If I rev the engine quickly up and down back to idle it usually will come back to idle and it does the same slowly advancing and lowering the throttle.
Now if I run it up to full throttle and let it run at full throttle for 20 or more seconds and then either lower the throttle quickly or gradually the engine will not return to the original idle rpm it will run higher. Then lowering the throttle trim will make it idle for a short 10 seconds or so and then it will quit unless the throttle is advanced. The higher idle sound doesn’t have the normal ping ping ping sound its more of a constant purr

I leaned the low end until the engine would starve for fuel when the throttle was opened. Makes that Baaaa sound. The idle seemed better on the lean side however it was too lean. Then I richened it and that didn’t help at all.

Any ideas?

Sounds like an air leak.I would check the bolts underneath the carb,at the spacer. Then try and richen the low needle up a tad more.
