I got a few engines from a guy, and this one has me stumped. It appears to have a Craftsman/Poulan bolt pattern so far as the back cover is concerned, but its built like a Ryobi, muffler and carb in the rear. The flywheel has no fins, so maybe it came out of a Blower?
Thanks for any help, LA

I think its a 23-25cc poulan.I did a 25cc poulan out of a pole, edger, trimmer combo, the one that comes with different attachments.Had the same case and bolt pattern[2 bolts are closer than the other 2].My carb was on the side and muffler on the side but the case looked identical.Forgot, muffler was held on by springs also.

Thanks for the fix Bratpak, not sure what happened there. I figured it might be a Poulan because of the backplate shape. Thanks for the info. It might make a good RC engine, seems lighter then the Ryobi. I did a 25cc Poulan with the Muffler on the side, runs good.

I sold mine to a student flyer of mine and he put it on a fleet biplane i think it was, about 72-78inch maybe.Still has it.Always started by hand on the second or third flip everytime.Pretty lite also and i didnt really spend a lot of time cleaning it up,that was with mag ign and stock muffler.

Well, Im gonna convert it this week. I hope the rotation will be correct, the flywheel has no fins on it, and there is no little arrow or any indication of which way the engine turned. It will be a waste of time if it turns clockwise. It does have strong compression , and the bearing feels tight, so that part is good. I cut the big flange around the block off last nite and I am letting the whole engine sit in a vat of carb cleaner right now. No machining required on the flywheel, but the engine mount plate will be a job since I will have to cut a nicely shaped hole to allow for the carburetor in the middle. The prop hub should be easy enough, the flywheel threads appear to be 5/16x24pretty standard on most US made trimmer engines.
I've got a nice Mig welder, not very good at, but I'll stick A pipe on the stock muffler and hit it with the Barbeque black spray paint.

What i would do ie pull the spark plug and then rotate it both ccw and cw.When the magnets pass under the coil close to TDC that will be the direction of rotation. One way they will be close or right under and the other way they will be to far off to even fire. That will tell wich way it rotates.

Heres the finished product. Turns an 18x8 prop 6600rpm. Not a super powerful engine, but I read the Ryobis dont like a big carb , so I used a small one on this since its made the same way. Notice I used four standoffs and two plates to get the firewall mounting figured out.
It runs well enough, and would be good for a narrow cowl (Spitfire) type aircraft. Never did find out the lawn care product it came out of.
