I have 4 engines to choose from, a Ryobi 31cc, a 25cc Homelite, a Weedeater 21cc and my pick an Echo 23.6. I liked this engine because the crank is supported on both ends it will go in a smaller craft and it is light with that plastic flywheel. After breakdown I find some scratches below the exhaust port and on the piston below the rings. Question is: will these bother this engine.

if there are no scratches above the exhaust port, it should be fine, especially if there aren't any marks on the rings, or if you get a new ring or two it shouldn't care

Like Rangerfredbob and Buck said, it's a good engine and if the cylinder isn't scored above the exhaust port it would probably be fine with a new ring. I really like the Echo engines and have a number of them.
I recommend Frank Bowman rings. Just use one of his rings in the top groove, and one of the original rings in the second. Here's his contact info. [email protected], 505-327-0696
