I bought a fiberglass boat hull (46") a couple weeks ago for a half decent price and thought I had the perfect engine for it, what I thought was a 30cc homie with a clutch, turned out to be a 25cc but I still wanted the clutch. another homie I have I know is 30cc, tore them both apart today trying to make a 30cc with the clutch and the dand crank pin is a different size between the two, and the rod on the 30 is a lot beefier than the 25 (the 25 has the bigger crank pin too). The 30cc is a newer engine with the compression release port, and the 25 is an older engine with the more square plastics (the classic style), turns out it's one of the ones with a one piece crankshaft which is a plus.
now instead of running a stronger engine out of the box like I was going to do I guess I get to do porting and stuff before I put it back together (which is a lot more work getting the jug off with the clutch on the front), the 30 did have a stuck ring and a little more wear but did run and the 25 is cleaner inside, so I guess it's not a complete loss, just means the 30 goes to plane duty eventually.
just thought I'd share, trying to get my weedies in more than just planes... it doesn't hurt that I have a good friend with a pond...
there's a lot of subtle differences in the homies for all looking the same, but as found out in the ryobi thread the same goes for them I guess...
will get pictures as I get progress on it

just looked and noticed that the homie with a clutch isn't like a ryobi or mac with a clutch, it's just a fancier drive adapter nut... now here's the important question:
which should I go with:
A) 25cc, removed post in exhaust port, pinned bowman ring, mild porting (exhaust to 150*), piston and cylinder in good to excelent shape
B)30cc, mild porting (exhaust to 150*), more questionable internals, ring is currently stuck, but should be fixable, and there are marks on the cylinder wall and on piston, just from being used a LOT, the shaft on the trimmer was SHOT, would probably wake up with a new ring
I got to the point of getting the post out of the exhaust port before I realized this, was just getting ready to take measurements of the current exhaust port timing.
I guess I'll keep working on the 25 for now and get a ring coming for the 30, have it set up to swap the long block after a while...

how deep are the marks on the cylinder? If you can scratch your fingernail against them, without your nail dropping into them it will still be good. If your nail catches the grooves, then you will need a new jug.

they're not deep enough to feel with a nail, just scuffs from being used a lot
now I just need to find the ring I have for the 25... I think I'm going to run it first then swap to the 30 when I get the itch to go faster...

I know, I just found my pinned 25cc ring, I do need to make an order with him for a few to rejuvinate a couple engines that I broke the rings on trying to get them unstuck...

ended up with another homie 25 with the one piece crank, this one is on a curved shaft no clutch, the fan/starter schroud is different from any I've seen, instead of the 1" spark plug guard, this one is about 2", the bottom of the schroud protrudes down so when you rest the thing on the ground it rests on that instead of the fuel tank, has a plastic back plate with a steel heat shield over the plastic sheld. Subtle but different.
