Default Smoke pump idea

Is is workable to use the chain oiler as a smoke fluid pump?

My thought is to use a loop of tubing so that smoke oil is always circulating back to the tank. The valve to the muffler comes in the middle of the loop. A restriction on the return at the tank side of the tee would provide pressure to squirt the oil into the muffler when the valve was opened wih the servo. .

The ECHOs I mess with have a nice looking oiler that I have been removing. This seems like a simple neat way to make a smoke system.

Nice idea, but unfortunately it won't work. The chain oil pump doesn't pump near enough oil.

Neat idea on the carb pump. Put a tee in the pressure tap line?

I looked up flow rates on chain oilers. I found that one saw runs up to 18cc/min, about 0.6 ounces, at 10K rpm. That is with viscious bar oil. We run slower but the smoke oil is real thin so it should move more? I guess the real question is what is the flow rate of smoke fluid in a real smoke system?

I obvioulsy don't know anything about smokes systems but the guys at the club keep teasing me about it. They all fly little airplanes. It'd be a kick to lay out a smoke trail but I don't want to make a Manhatten project out of it.

I've had a few chain saws and they didn't set the world on fire with the oiler.

You may never know unless you try it.

On smaller engines, like around 25cc, you need about an ounce a minute or more. Larger engines need more.
