Default plane,thrust??????????

how do you come up with how many lbs of thrust you need for your plane? for instance,if you have a 12 lb plane empty, no radio gear or anything, what size engine would i be looking for. do you just use a standard scale like a 70 to 90 or is there a way to refine this a little bit. or just ask on rcu. thanks

Hook a fish scale to the rear of your plane and see how much pull it has? It will take in excess of 12 pounds pull to hoover a 12 lb plane.

You can also use the thrust calculator program to calculate thrust if you know how many rpm's a certain engine will turn a certain prop.

Enjoy,

Jim
