You mean 31 cc??? That plane is way to small, Its a 46 size glow plane , it could never handle the weight of a ryobi.

After flying my larger then standard four sate 120 with a 28cc ryobi i wanted more power, the 28 was good but a 31 with a few of Tims tricks added to it should make it really go!!!
So a few hours in Tim's shed (Katanamadman) and this is the result.... A video will follow when I get a chance to mount and fly the beastie...

Briggs &Stratton 40cc four-stroke conversion in a 1/4 scale DVII. It's just about ready to go butI have to find a new place to fly it as where I go now has a 20 pound weight limit and this one is @23 pounds.

I have a 25cc Stihl trimmer I would like to convert. Bridi makes some big stick kits that look like they could be a good combo. From what I've read here, 10 lbs is about max for 'spirited' performance, not 3-D. Does that sound about right? I will try to get it converted this winter and build when my other projects get finished.

I'm doing the Birdi Old Timer.

This kit is a tough one. None of the pieces are marked. Most need work before they fit.

It took me 3 weeks to do the wing and longer than that for a friend and me to do the fuse.
I did have to get some wood to make up for missing pieces.

The plans really need to be studyed by a very experenced builder before you start.

There should be 3 sheets of plans and they do it in 2 by overlaying key points on the other set of plans.

I just hope mine will fly good. This will be my last kit for a long time.

By the way were still working on it.

I have a Homelite 30 on mine. It originally had a early type Zenoah 23 (Kalt 22) engine but was under powered. Sure seems to have plenty of power now.

Mine is a little on the heavy wing loading side. On landing, I bring it in with plenty of speed and left the speed bleed off with the plane close to the ground. It stalls at a faster speed than you would think.

On tank off, keep it on the the ground until you have good flying speed. With the big engine it will jump off the ground early before you have full control. For this reason, I would not put the scallops in the control surfaces. Leave them straight.

Up in the air it is like a smaller stick.

The Bridi Stick and the Old Timer are the same plane. The only difference is the name on the box.

I was hopeing it was goung to be a floater.
I have the picture of you kneeling by yours. I had looked at this for about a year before I made the purchase.

How does yours balance? I noticed the servos in the tail.

I have several engines I could put in it. I understand it was designed for a ST 2500, I have a good one.
I also have a Mac 32cc on Gas-Glow, a ST-3250 I'm converting to Gas-Glow, and a US 35.

I set the tail feathers in the fuse, instead of just putting them on top.

A little more work and I'll be able to mount the wing and check the CG.

Where do you have your CG set? Did you add any weight?
Any suggestions?

The Mac 32 or the US 35 would be ideal. I have a couple Mac 32's and they have the same power as the Homelite 30. The US 35's I've been around are also about the same. These engines all did a 18-8 @ 7500

There's no lead on it anywhere. It balances on the main spar.

The thing is covered with Century 21 fabric which adds a lot of weight.

All standard Futaba 3004 servos but 4-40 hardware on the flying surfaces. I run 4.8V. There are two elevator servos in the rear but the rudder servo is in the radio compartment. The tail wheel which was added later is spring loaded to the bottom of the rudder.

Has a 14oz tank.

Other than what's being mentioned, I've never had any trouble with it.

I initially decided the rudder mounting was a little weak so I used aluminum aero tubing to brace it. That only lasted a couple flights before it cracked. Probably because I didn't use inserts in the ends?

So I used the Dubro tail brace kit and it has held up fine.

The landing gear is as per the print and has held up fine.

I originally had Dave Brown wheels on it but they just couldn't handle the weight. I changed to the Dubro large scale wheels that bolt together. They are perfect.

I also have an extra kit.

Featherlite 21cc, major surgery and throttle coupled spark advance electronic ignition in a .40 size Twist 3D. Unlimited vertical, slows to a crawl to land thanks to thick airfoil, radar gun sez 70 mph flat out. Removed the toy like graphics and applied airplane type trim. Flown hard, this is the third season. Four aonce fuel tank gives 12 minute flights. Redline oil 50:1.
