RE: converting a stihl
Hi, Ken Do you know how much the Stihl 4-Mix engines are selling for? I think Stihl only sells the complete trimmer; not the engine only. I was interested in the 31.4 CC version but the larger 36CC sounds like it would make a good conversion too.

RE: converting a stihl
you would need to talk to tripp about the 4mix

RE: converting a stihl
Hi Ken,
I was looking at the photo of the sthil you converted in your message of 1-14-05. What a beautiful job! I am converting onelike this, a 23.9cc from a weedwhacker. Where can I get a prop drive like that for mine. The crank threads are 8mm x 1.25 I believe. thanks, therockpilot |
RE: converting a stihl
Poulan 46cc cranks are made by Husky, I very much doubt the threads are 5/16-24...Close, no cigar. 8mm, just like all smaller Sachs and Husky, and all other foreign engines...Large Sachs and Husky are 10mm...
Quadra threads are US, 5/16 and 3/8-24 Zenoah threads are 8mm and 10mm Stihl are 8 and 10mm DA and 3W, 8mm :D |
RE: converting a stihl
RCIGN1: Glad you put those thread sizes in that post. Gotta find the right tap and get back to my project. Its getting warm..er here now. time to test!!! Forgot to ask...whats the thread size on a Homelite 23cc and 30cc Thanks, Capt,n

RE: converting a stihl
Hi Ken, i neeed a prop drive for a Sthil 23.4cc off a FS74 weedwhacker. It has 8mm x 1.25
threads on the crank at the flywheel. I just found this forum last week and I am delighted to find so many modelers enjoying this little engine thing . Please get with me on a price and payment method. I can use paypal if that's ok. Thanks , Gerald Johnson (therockpilot) [email protected] |
RE: converting a stihl
After reading this thread....I was wondering if the 24.5cc Stihl engne is more powerfull than the 27cc Stihl engine? Whih one makes for the best conversion? Thanks Capt,n

RE: converting a stihl
Speaking of Red Max, I was in a shop yesterday looking at them. Looks like Zenoah is the parent company. Its written on the plastic case.

RE: converting a stihl
I was told the 25.4 Stihl is a better engine than the 27 cc. I have the Stihl 25.4 that Ken converted and posted pictures of. Never put it in a plane though. It's still sitting on the bench! I had since put a 2 needle Walbro carb on it, but did nothing else with it. One day I will put it in a Kangke monocoupe or a CMP Giles 202.

RE: converting a stihl
I have a 23.9 Stihl at turns 8400 with a 16x8, i also have the 27cc and it does not show real good power yet, but i don't think it is broke in yet, only had two tanks of gas run in it.

RE: converting a stihl
What's the weight like on these Stihl conversions?

RE: converting a stihl
My 23 and 27 come in a little under 3#
