gas engine cross reference
Has anyone out there done/found a good cross reference chart for the gas engines we want to convert? You know..like the Kioritz engine is used in Echo brand equipment, and Poulan and Sears/Craftsman chainsaws are basically the same saw...just different name brand.... I have seen reference to the Mustang 50 and Fuji 50?? Just what were most of todays 'model' engines originally used for?

RE: gas engine cross reference
RED MAX IS ZENOAH

RE: gas engine cross reference
Maybe we should have a collection of entries about the Ryobi 31 and the many other names of engines where it will be found?
In recent times, The name Ryobi has been aquired by MTD of Ohio and the different names have proliferated. Enjoy, Jim |
RE: gas engine cross reference
w8ye......when you going to start the collection?
|
RE: gas engine cross reference
My Ryobi conversion started life as a Lawn Boy. I bought it new in 1985. But it wasn't long before Ryan's were every where. They disappeared and Ryobi's showed up. But I think some of the Sears whackers are Ryobi's. There are some Toro's and Stihls that make you wonder? What about the Cub Cadet? That's a name that MTD has owned for years. Then there are the MTD names like Yard Man, Lawn Chief, Arnold, among others?
When you see an engine with a counter levered crankshaft, that is mounted upside down, with reed valve induction, and claims a capacity of between 30 and 32cc, it's probably a Ryobi? Ryobi also has made a couple different four strokes... And they make a smaller two stroke? Cannot remember the size? seemed to be better made than the "31"? There's another name associated with Ryobi and that's IDC. They were listed as the owners for many years. Then there are the many models of the engines labeled as Ryobi's? Enjoy, Jim |
RE: gas engine cross reference
My two ringed Ryobi was actually out of a Bolens trimmer. Bolens can be found at Lowes.
|
RE: gas engine cross reference
I forgot the two MTD brands of Troy Built and Bolens
Jim |
RE: gas engine cross reference
WD40...I mean w8ye: I am glad you placed all that data there. I was at a new Lowes store, and I bet I seen 6 Brands of equipment that I am sure had Ryobi 31cc engines. Thats a lot to pick from. Gonna have used parts every place you go before long!!! Thats good. Capt,n

RE: gas engine cross reference
Is there a posting of what 'name brand' hobby engines are actually made from? Example would be the Brisson 3.2 is actually a Kioritz I think. The BME 44 looks a lot like a Poulan. I am interested in the 40-60 cc sizes.
|
RE: gas engine cross reference
BME = echo
brisson= makita fox = makita makita = sachs-dolmar poulan = electrolux husky = electrolux this might help a little |
RE: gas engine cross reference
ORIGINAL: w8ye Ryobi also has made a couple different four strokes... And they make a smaller two stroke? Cannot remember the size? seemed to be better made than the "31"? Ryobi's smaller 2stroke is 22.5cc and is of balanced support twin-BB design vs. the cantilevered Ryobi 31cc crank. Again, it is only used in PRO-grade weedies. BTW, my newest twin-ring Ryobi 31 is also out of a Bolens weedie. |
RE: gas engine cross reference
So the Brison 3.2 is from a Dolmar saw and the BME 44 is from an Echo (Kioritz) saw. Do I have that right?
|
RE: gas engine cross reference
yet that is it but the dolmar is now Makita

RE: gas engine cross reference
Taking all the previous inputs, I get something like this:
Kiortz = Echo Poulan = Craftsman (Sears) -saws Fiji 50 = Mustang 50 Zenoah = RedMax = Komatsu-Zenoah Kalt 22 = older original Zenoah G23 Ryobi 31 = Bolens Ryobi 31 = Troy Built Ryobi 31 = MTD Ryobi 31 = LawnBoy Ryobi 31 = Ryan Ryobi 31 = Yardman Ryobi 31 = Lawn Cheif Ryobi 31 = Arnold Ryobi 31 = IDC Ryobi 31 = Toro (questionable) Ryobi 31 = Sears (questionable) Stihl = Stihl 35cc Webra Bully = Husqvarna Parts(82-86) 3w 35 = Husqvarna Parts(82-86) fpe 3.2 = Husqvarna saw (Rancher 50) fpe 2.4 = Husky 40 something Efco = unkown Tilton = unknown Homelite = unknown McCulloch= unknown Hobby Engine Brands: BME = Echo = Kiortz Brisson = Makita = Sachs-Dolmar Fox = Makita Makita = Sachs-Dolmar Poulan = Electrolux Husky = Electrolux Jonsered = Electrolux Partner = Electrolux Brisson 3.2 = Sach-Dolmar (saw) = Makita Robin = Fuji (4 stroke-weedwacker) Sears = Briggs & Stration (4 stroke-weedwacker) If there are corrections/additions to the above, let me know, and I'll edit them into this post. |
RE: gas engine cross reference
The Ryobi 31 is not a Stihl, or vice-versa. Stihl makes its own engines.
I would be interested if someone has a list of the popular hobby engines that cross reference the saw make and model. We could then look for that saw to essentially have the same engine as the expensive hobby engine. I have a Dolmar, Husky, Echo dealer up the street so I have access to most of the popular saws that have been used for hobby engines. |
RE: gas engine cross reference
Where dose the Efco and Tilton fit in this list???,
The Efco 46 looks very much like the Poulan but is not the same engine waldo |
RE: gas engine cross reference
What is the source of the head on a DA50? Is it a special one-off type head?
|
RE: gas engine cross reference
Jonsered and Jonsereds = Electrolux. My understanding is that Electrolux owns both Husky and Jonsered(s). Also, my new Jonsered 2152 has a Husky engine in it.
Check the Jonsered "History" link below. Click on the two flags: http://www.usa.jonsered.com/index.as...&skip_map=true Bruce |
RE: gas engine cross reference
DA cast there own cylinders
brisson is sachs or makita not koritz |
RE: gas engine cross reference
electrolux also owns poulan
|
RE: gas engine cross reference
Electrolux also owns Partner.
http://international.partner.se/ Here in Scandinavia Partner is a cheaper type of saw sold through hardware stores, unlike Husquarna and Jonsered, that are sold by specialists. Lars |
RE: gas engine cross reference
Certainly cleared it up for me.;)
|
RE: gas engine cross reference
That does clear up who owns who in the saw business, but it still does not answer my questions. What saw make/models are used to make the BME, Brison, FPE, etc. engines. I am interested in the 40-60cc engines. Example is BME 50cc = Echo 550 saw.
BME 44 = Brison 3.2 = Brison 2.4 = FPE 2.4 = FPE 3.2 = I will fill in the answer when I get them. |
RE: gas engine cross reference
Hello,
I am comverting a Echo CS-4400 which is a BME 44cc with mag. I ordered the carb adapter from BME and the hub from Pete at Wacker Engines. The correct NGK plug is from Advanced Auto. I had to make a coil mounting bracket, since the coil was mounted on the saw body. The new Echo CS-440 is a different motor. It dosen't look as good. Regards,Dave |
RE: gas engine cross reference
I have a K3-AW Kioritz weedwhip. It is 21.2cc and I bought it new from Sears. Runs nice. The question is...is it worth converting? Has anyone got a photo of one converted? How lite can it be when done? Thanks Capt,n

RE: gas engine cross reference
Are the Kalt 22 engines still available. What does it compare to in size.ex.saito100/120?????
Thanks JAllen |
RE: gas engine cross reference
The Kalt 22 was sold as the G23 for many years...No longer available, but G23 parts all interchange...Later G23s had wider transfer ports and were a little stronger....The G23s made last had a different crankcase, ignition without points, and a different prop hub and larger carb.....No longer made either, the G26 has superseded it...There was a 23cc helicopter engine made for a while with the exact same cylinder and ports as the G26, just a smaller bore.....I suspect the powers that be didn't want that one to compete with the new G26 so it was dropped...The one I have here runs exactly like the G26......[8D]

RE: gas engine cross reference
Sides7: You got to update your list. Bully ,Mac, Homelite, and others Capt,n
|
RE: gas engine cross reference
Capn'John
I'm sure there is other entries that should be in the list like what you named. I just need some knowledgable person to tell me what the input should be, e.g. is it : Bully = Bully or is it: (something) = Bully or is it: Bully = (something) For example, I think it is: Stihl = Stihl which implys the engine in a piece of Stihl equipment is a Stihl manfactured engine. If someone posts an input or correction to the list, I'll update the list accordingly. Sides7 |
RE: gas engine cross reference
There was/is more than 1 Bully...I have a Bully 75cc single race engine...Purpose built for racing in the 75cc class...Built like a tank, rear carb with reed valve, glow plug ignition....Says Webra on one side of the case and Bully on the other..There are no chainsaw or other engine parts in it.....It was 12 mph faster than the Zenoah 445 twins many years ago..We're going to resurrect it and race it again......
There, now I've hijacked this thread too.....:D I would post a picture of it but since it's a glow engine it would be against the rules..;) |
RE: gas engine cross reference
There is 3 Bully engines I know about. 1. is a 1.2 Twin glow-plug hot rod. 2. is a spark Gas engine of around 35cc?? 3. is the same as 2...but runs on glow fuel. RC (the hi-jacker) can tell more on these. Maybe he knows of a fourth Bully. By the way, I hope RC HI-jacks more....I love to read his right on the way it is data! Thanks & Good day Capt,n:D

RE: gas engine cross reference
The BME 44 is a Echo CS-4400 not a Poulan
Brison 2.4 = Dolmar Brison 3.2 = Dolmar Actually all Brison engines are made from Dolmar engines. Check their site. |
RE: gas engine cross reference
I was a Low,s today and noticed a TROY- BUILT 42cc chainsaw. The engine has a crome liner. It sure looked like a good engine to convert. Anyone know about this fine looking engine? Thanks Capt,n
|
RE: gas engine cross reference
im pretty sure these are correct.
fpe 3.2=husqvarna saw( rancher 50.) fpe.2.4=husky 40 something brison3.2=dolmar dcs-520 which is 52cc,or sachs saws with numbers#111,#115. sachs #117=61ccs. sachs#120=68ccs. sachs#123=4.2=68ccs.great for rc. redmax saws 62= g62 zenoah i have an old husky61 saw which is 61ccs. |

How lite can it be when done? Engine pic on scale is on Dont' forget Echo thread. Is the weedwhip Craftsman? Does Sears support the model engine for parts? I would be interested in the access to Sears parts if they do. I have a 21 and 23cc still in blowers and a conversion 23.6 purchased on RCU. |
RE: gas engine cross reference
I will take a digital photo of my K3-aw as it is in weed- whip. I do not know if sears has parts or not. The engine is built so well you should not need any parts. Unless a crash happens. Then it is best to go with a complete different engine. Capt,n

Hello,
the 35 cc "Webra Bully" and the "3w 35" = husqvarna parts (1982 - 1986? ) |
RE: gas engine cross reference
Same cylinder and crank, different case and ignition...There are two different cylinders, one has the spark plug at an angle, the other is straight up....
|
RE: gas engine cross reference
So who is Mahle? I have engines with these heads and I think stihl had some mahle heads.
