RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
Hi captjohn.
The hub and adapter I got from Roy at S/S machine will be great for the glow/gas set-up. Since you now have a lathe, have you made a prop hub to fit the L/H thread echo with the flywheel set-up yet? If so What would you charge to Machine one? |
RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
oldtimer2: I have not made a hub for the L/hand Echo yet. I got to send for the left hand tap. I do have a dial indicator now and I am still buying tools for my Lathe. I want to get a few small boring bars next. I will send for the L/H tap and when I get that I can make a hub. If my hubs test out good I can make you one. The big problem is I need a flywhelel to cut the center out with a hole saw. Then true it up in the Lathe. I use that for my adapter to seat against so the apapter is keep in line. Thus the prop should tract true. I will need a flywheel from you and that will be used with the adapter I make. Capt,n

RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
Where do buy your aluminum from. No place here sells any stock. To small a town I guess
|
RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
Do you know if any of those echo blocks are still available?
|
RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
http://www.mcmaster.com/ for aluminum rod min: 12"
That lot Engines are all gone. |
RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
I get my round stock from a place in Grand Rapids Mich. I went with another guy there. All kinds of new and used stock....good price too!. I can get the phone number....maybe they would ship it ??? Capt,n

RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
That should work. Send me the number and I will give them a call. Thanks

RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
tstotts: I got to get number from my friend. I will call & post the number here. I will call also...its a long drive for me...may be cheaper to have them ship aluminum to my door. Capt,n

RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
ORIGINAL: tim220225 Another way to do it from Ralph is to cut the threads off of the crank. Then bore and tap the crank for RH threads. I am going to try that method as I prefer the looks of the one piece hubs I make. |
RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
Thanx Cap. I will keep an eye out for your post.

RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
tstotts: I called and found more imfo. The Place is called Grand Rapids Central Steel. 1730 Alpine ave NW, Grand Rapids Mich 49504 The Phone number is 1-616-363-4013. Ask for steve. They do ship aluminum by UPS. Hope that helps! Capt,n

RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
Another good source for lots of materials, including aluminum and brass rod, is Aircraft Spruce & Specialty.
www.aircraftspruce.com www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/me/index.html They ship UPS to anywhere, don't have minimum orders, and don't charge for cutting to the size you want. After spending several hours driving around Tucson, Arizona one time looking for materials and not finding what I wanted, I decided it was best to online order from Aircraft Spruce!! AV8TOR |
RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
Thanks Guys I appreciate the help. BTW I have a website at http://rccorner.org where I try to put up hints and tips for RC pilots. I appreciate guys sending me articles on anything dealing with the hobby.

RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
I checked the store that had the engines last week and didn't see anything of much interest to us.
I bought a 1500w generator for $167 but shipping would eat you up for they weigh 50lbs |
RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
For whatever it's worth, I think that's how I'll do my left hand thread Echo 23.6cc when I get around to converting it; cut the threads off and center bore and thread the crank for a right hand thread stud or a bolt.
It might be ok if one uses a keyed, tapered prop hub to use a left hand thread, but it just scares me. Anyone see the pictures in the magazine a while back, (I can't remember which one, but I think it was R/C World) of the guy with his fingers chopped off?? Those 16+ inch props can do some serious damage. Years ago I was fine tuning a .40 size glow engine, and inadvertently reached through the prop arc while reaching for the carb. That little engine was only at idle, but it still cut four fingers to the bone, right through my finger nails. Ouch!! I can't find it, but somewhere in this forum a couple of years ago I read some horror stories about someone attempting to use an engine with left hand threads... I never allow anyone to be inline or in front of any prop driven machine when it's running myself.... and that's with right hand threads!! When I start one, I can't wait to get safely behind it... Engine lovers....here is a good movie to see...you should like it very much! Capt,n Also do a search on the web and read how he built/converted his own engines!!!!

RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
Engines sold...thanks

RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
Give me some details on those engines. Are they complete? I am very interested in them.

RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
Captin, the Z engine as it was called by Echo in either the 21cc or 23.6cc has a soft crankshaft. It has a very thin not so hard skin and you should have no trouble drilling and taping it after you cut the threads off. Here is a teaser for you DYI guys. I have about 30ea twin cylinder crankcases and mounts for the 21cc and 23cc Echo engines. The cranks are made out of two cranshafts by cutting the shaft of one end and boring it out so that the shaft from the other crank slips inside it. Then the two crankshaft shafts are welded together with a tig welder. Its much easier to do than it sounds. If anyone is interested I will take 40.00 ea for the crankcases with bell mount. They are blue with BME engraved in them.

RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
BME: I called the Echo shops around here for that 39cc engine/parts that you wanted. I have not been able to find any yet. The twin cylinder engine sounds like a real interesting project. I have not had enough engine building yet to try right now. I will keep the idea in mind, a twin would be neat. Thanks Capt,n

RE: Echo 2400T Short blocks
Thanks Captin. I ordered the last of the 3900 parts from Echo and man did it cost me. If you would like to try a twin I will send you the crankcase if you will post pics and updates of your progress. I would just like to sell the crankcases because we are not going to produce it.
