Crashcrash

My tail blades are 56mm (from center hole to tip) x 26 mm (at the max width). Tail rotor diameter = 145 mm.

I hand crafted the blade using a small plane and a sharp blade. I used the wood from my son's wooden ruler !

My HBK2 came with the EK1-0294 blade (47mmx18;127). I read from an earlier message from FMB42 that EK1-501 blade(51x20;135)
is better. Since I do not have the EK1-501, I decided to improvise.

First I planed down the ruler to an aerofoil shape. Then I cut to length and drill the hole. Actually I started off with a very large blade
and gradually work down to the final size.

Now I can see that the blades are more powerful than EK1-0294 when flying.

I do not have a scale to weight it. However I felt it is even lighter than the Ek1-0294. I was worried that the blade might fly off at speed but so far so good. I do not have a balancer. There was no noticeable vibration. Spinned normally.

Attached are some pics.

OK....here's some further info to help you. Sand the blades with 400grit sandpaper. Apply 1 coat of "Tru-Oil" gunstock finish and let dry completely (4-6 hours), then apply a second coat, let dry completely. When dry, apply black primer and let dry. Mask off the blades leaving 1/4" of the tips exposed, paint the tips high gloss yellow and let dry completely. You'll be amazed at the contrasting colors. The tail rotor is completely visable at full speed....very pronounced and looks good. The tru-oil will actually make the blades more resistant to stone nicks and stronger. Wood is soft, tru-oil gives it an armour coating.

Now go out and get your son a new ruler (LOL).

Well I finally had to change the 8T pinion and main gear on my King2 after logging 80 flights averaging 9 to 15 min each.
The brass 8T was not that bad but was slipping at times the main was in relatively good shape but I prefer changing both at the same time.

I started doing some pirouettes slow and fast and also tail overs, I dont really want to fly 3D but it does give me more confidence in my flying.

I'm still thrill with the King2 [img][/img]

Any body have a mod for the vertical tail fin? I would like to do something like the belt cp, or a trex 450 where the fin is attached to the tail gear box not to the little holder on the boom? I broke the holber when I crashed after the one way bearing quit and I dont have a vert vin set to put a new one on and I really dont want to take the boom off. Any ideas?

redrill the holes through the vert fin to match the space of the screws hgolding the tail assy on the boom, remove front screws from assy, add spacer between tail assy and vert fin and screw back together using a slightly longer screw.

Feathering shafts: I got 9ft of stock on order, should be here in a couple days. I'm taking orders NOW. Sorry....no PayPal. MAx per order is 10pcs. I'll be getting the "O" rings and M3 nyloc nuts as well because I've noticed, they wear out too. More info when I get them in here. I'm buying them by box of 100ct and pass the savings on to you guys. Hobby shops sell M3 nylocks 10ct for $2...then add $4 or $5 shipping...outragous price for a tiny nut...and try to find the "O" rings (LOL). I'll post the results of the M3's and rings later when I find a supplier.

I will order the nuts, "O" rings and shafts (I'll take 5 shfts) also. Just let us know when and where to send the money. Also, does anyone know where I can get the rubber gromets that hold the canopy on? Mine seem to come off in flight somehow.

Well today my esky 3900kv and 25 amp speed control came in. Install went good I used a 10t align pinion I had to cut abit of the frame for the pinion to fit through but not much. Just a little carving with a hobby knife and I was in business. Wow what a difference it make first spool up had me on my toes but its seems to have alot more power and head speed. Hovers super stable but is touchy on the controls had to raise my hover pit control( left one) to about 12 'O clock on the dial to get it to hover just over half stick. Tail is alot more responsive. Taking it to a school gym that my local rc club flies in every friday night to give it a better run through. Windy out and dont have to nerve to test it in my studio with only about 6 feet on both sides. So far im loving it old motor was shot and this sure brought a new life to the heli. Also CrashCrash count me in on some of those feathering shafts when you get some more made to good a deal to pass on.

I just double checked fit and finish on the nuts and "O" rings....better than stock on the tolerences and everything is much more snug. I'm very pleased with the fit....I'm changing mine out today.
