I made today, a diesel head for an MDS 1.48, and one for an ASP/OS .91 FX.
They are just awaiting the viton I O-rings (should be in Monday or Tuesday).
As usuall, made from 6061-T6, finish is a combination of glass bead blasting for the matte and as-machined for the shiny. I have a small setscrew and brass insert to hold the contra adjustment screw.
Tried my new slitting saw out today, its coarser and cuts much better in aluminum without clogging like my old one.
These were made for two of the regulars here..
Hope you guys like em' and they work out. Should be able to ship as soon as the O rings get here and I will include a few spares as I had to buy a 10 pack.

Looks good AJ!
I haven't had time to do much machining lately. I just got the castings for the HP .40 Grand Prix (never produced) from Randy Linsalato at MECOA. Long history as OPS bought out HP and then MECOA bought HP from OPS. OPS made a very few and called them the Monza .40 (one of which I have) and then sold the castings. Let me know if you guys want pictures as the castings are beautiful! Also just got castings for a ZALP .15 which is very cool. I'm a (was) long time IC subscriber and now have no other sources for info now that they folded. I'm wondering if we should start another category which is related to machining or homebuilding engines? How about some feedback on this!

Max - What do you do with castings, when you havent any drawings (unless you also have them for the HP, I assumed not)? Make up your own design I suppose? I think there are enough guys here that are into machining engine parts or complete engines to have some sort of forum, but its also fine for me to have it within forums I allready post in too.
I tell you, the idea of a 1 and a half cubic inch model diesel is pretty awesome... I wish I could be there when you run it up HObbsy! What prop are you going to use?

I normally load a Diesel conversion about 30% over the glow load, so in this case I'll start out with an 18x6 three blade, it should turn it in the high nines. The engine is going on a H9 UltraStik Lite. I have two of the early C1 MDS carbs that work very well, the C2 carbs are 10mm these are a wee bit under 9mm.

WOW WOW it is Christmas again looks great can hardly wait-- Looks like a head that
will fit my ASP 91. Hobbsy you better have AJ scout up a Canadian maple tree that
can be milled into a prop,The h**l with the prop what are you putting this in maybe
an airboat to take you fishing?? Also the pics I am sure do not do justice to great
machining. After looking at these I suspect a few of the lookers may have a drool attack

Yesterday and the day before, it was into the -50's when I went to work. Today it warmed up to -20 C (about 3 or 4 F I think for you US boys
)
I just got back from walking the dog, and shovelling the driveway. Not going flying today..... building in the warm shop sounds a lot better!
Jan and Feb is very cold here usually, but come mid MArch I start thinking about flying again..

The new head arrived today and is every bit as beautiful as Andrew's pics indicate. While I was waiting for the head I replaced the sleeve and piston in the 1.48, the ring was rusty as was the rear bearing. It appears the original owner used all synthetic. So, now that I have the old head back I can braek in the new cylinder and piston. The new head fits perfectly and looks good on the engine. As an interesting aside the new cylinder is perfectly smooth inside, no crosshatch and holds compression like a properly broken in engine when rotated by the prop driver. Excellent job Andrew.

We could sure use some good weather here, I want to try out my new head, I'm tired of wearing it out looking at it. I want to put a little time on the 1.48 before I Dieselize it. I know AJ can't help me with the weather but Martin can. So send some warmth this way please.

Hobbsy you need a orange grove heater looks like a giant bernzomatic torch** use them in the
orange groves to prevent frost damage one of the groves near here had them plus (get this)
a aircaft engine (maybe a airboat set up blowing the warm air over the trees) on tower about 20 ft up (This is not a joke for real) A very large space heater** is a better description with a stack
on the top this has to be the worlds largest oscilating fan ( no doubt one of AJs projects when he
visited Florida)
