Hello fellas
I decided to run my 09 on the bench today to clean up the dust and the strangest thing happened: it wouldn't start!
I spent half an hour flipping the prop to no avail. I disconnected the fuel line to remove excess fuel, but still no pop. I even gave it a whif of the electric starter (lots of fuel coming out the silencer), but still no signs of life, the same happening with pure ether shots. I then removed the silencer and within 8 flips is started to pop, finalling starting after 2 dozen flips or so. With the engine warmed up and set, compression and needle wise, I removed the head and put the silencer back on. No pop, no nothing once again. Removed it and presto, a few more flips and it started running (pretty well actually, peaked 10200 with a aviomodelli fiber 9x4 prop).
Oh, thottle response seemed a little sluggish from WOT to 5000 rpm.
I simply don't get this, I have had it running from new with the muffler, somewhat easy starter and sipping virtually the same old english mix (though I cut the oil a bit down today from the usual 30% to something like 23~25%), freshly made. What could have happened or what can be causing this?
Thank you

I bought this engine NIB with rc carb and silencer this last christmas and proceeded with break-in with no problems. I stored the engine some 2 weeks ago, after leaving it for 5 days outside the box so any corrosives would escape the crankcase, as for PAW instructions. Only today I removed it up to remove the silencer, the only intervention to it besides putting the carb needle on and off of it and adding fuel to the tank.
These engines have the head hold on to the crankcase by 3 screws, with the liner being exposed to the outside. The head has no influence on the portings. I also took great care when removing the head to take the silencer out so the liner wouldn't move from its position.
I'm really puzzled as to why the engine would not want to start with the silencer on since it has always started great from new. My other 09 C/L was started yesterday and it too took some fliiping to startup, but it had been stored for 2 months or so (it also hasn't got a silencer, one of the reasons why I bought the other PAW 09).

You are right the cylinder slips over the liner and you have no reason to remove the liner have
done this myself adding silencers, Just a thought blow thru the end of the muffler and make sure
its clear-- martin
come to think of it you did state it blew fuel thru it

Mea culpa
I had a piece of black gas line on the last portion of the fuel line, where it enters the carb nipple. It seems it was excessive priming[:@]
I removed that piece of black line, assembled the silencer and got the engine to the running stand, with yesterdays last bit of fuel. Primed until fuel reaches the carb and it started in a dozen flips or so, showing signs of life on the 3rd flip. No need to mess with the needle setting from yesterday, compression just set a quarter turn for starting, 10100rpm at WOT on the same 9x4. I'm cool![8D]
Stupid me...[&o] Always learning!

Glad you solved it, I did notice when I had my PAWSs apart the intake bypass's are pretty small / hence with too much prime it would take a bit to clear out to hit the fuel/air mix ratio right, (this is just a guess as why on my part) looks like a good strong engine from the numbers hope my 040 MP diesel shows up soon I ordered martin
Due to time restrictons I have to fly my little E conversions PAW 033, 06, TT10, at local parks etc since I cannot hit the regular field (50 miles) with my 40s and 50s diesels
