Default OS 10FSR conversion to diesel?

Hi guys!
Recently i purchased a used but in like new condition OS 10FSR,
and i wanted to know if i can convert it to diesel.
I've heard of a guy ,named Davis i think, who does conversions like this both for airplane engines and buggy engines.
Here are some pics of my jewel!

Enjoy,

Konstantinos

Kostas1,

The company you're thinking of is Davis Diesel Development: http://davisdieseldevelopment.com/home.php

Unfortunately I don't see an FSR head listed. You may want to contect them anyway - maybe he was one sitting on the shelf? If you're succesful in finding a diesel head, and have no use for the glow head, I'll give ya a couple bucks for it as I have a .10 FSR buggy engine here (NIB) that I'd love to fly in something.

I converted one of mine to a diesel with a Davis diesel head. It ran fine, produced good power, almost as much as the glow version. It also bent two rods in flight before I changed it back. Physically just not stong enough for a diesel.

Sounds like you had it a little over compressed. It's a common fault with small diesels. That said I have a new FSR head if the gentleman is intersted he can have at a reasonable price. New but no package but I do have instruxctions.

Guys,
in the mean time i already sent a mail to Davis company, and i am waiting for them to reply back!

As for the parts that you offer,

i may be interested in buying them,
but firstly i want to hear back from Davis.

What parts are involved on such conversions?

Ibelieve the FSR connectiong rods have a reputation for being weak and non bushed but unless I am mistaken they are interchangeable with 10FP rods that are bushed at the crank end.

In the olden days I used to fly FAI TR. So I tend to squease as much as I can out of small diesels on smallish props so yes I could have been a little over compressed. But I didn't expect it to bend the rods in flight. It would be flying along doing nicely on a very light sport pattern airplane I scratch built for it then start making an odd sound. After the second one I desided it was a bad idea.

Ichecked mine and it has the factory non bushed rod, I would change it if Iwas converting to diesel or racing.

We respond to all E-mails and yes we make heads for the OS .10 fsr or fp they are great engines. As to the guy that bent the rod in the air I don't think so to much side friction to run that way but fuel lock on the ground can be done to any little engine. We have sold thousands of OS .10 over the years and they run with more power then glow in all cases. Remeber we have been here of 35 years and have customers that use many of our systems for all these years wit h no ill effects.

I've been using Bob's heads since about 1992 and now have 21 of them from an OS LA .10 to a SuperTigre 4500 and never had contra stick.

I have 20+ Davis heads 049 thu 1.08( the 1.08 is on OS) there is no way the contra in his head can get stuck On a like note the Irvine factory heads on rare occassions have dropped contras so have RJLs to my knowledge it has never happened with Davis martin

We use O-rings so they don't stick, ever.

Hey Bob, I bet you have a thick enough shelf under the O-ring that the shelf doesn't break off in flight. Been there, done that with another brand.

We have designed for up to Super Tigre 4500 with no ring failures. The some worst applications are for our sytem was in Ducted fan with .91 piped OS and Rossi's and helis which is a very hot and high powered with no effect. If you go to youtube and search davis diesel you will see a diesel heli.

Here is a shot of my LA .65, it makes a very good conversion as does the LA .46 and the LA .10.

Hobbsy,

thank you so so much for the picture!

So the conversion works !

In the picture you posted,
what prop does the "daddy" spin?
At what rpm?

Also,
do you think that the diesel converted engine makes more power than the nitro one?

Do you have any other higher resolution pictures?
I want one for my pc's desktop!

I has a OS 10 FP Marine engine (Kyosho) with pull start converted as a diesel engine for my model boat.
It took 45 minutes to run the engine with a 1,4 dl fuel.

Never had problem with connecting rod by hi pressure. Still has original P/L set since the engine was new.

PS. I see that fuel consumption ratio is relatively small compared to glow fuel consumption ratio.
