Mini-Telemaster conversion
Just got mine-- Mini Telemaster today WOW 3 days FedX This is an outanding ARF some of the best hardware I have seen in an ARF. thinking of moving
the firewall BACK about an inch then putting in the mount for the MVVS 09 or OS 10 conversion or AS12 conversion think its needed for balance and getting engine in right place Thoughts??? martin Just did a mock up with the firewall as is, it puts the rear of prop washer 1 3/4 inch forward of the front of the Fus. its gotta go back |
RE: Mini-Telemaster conversion
Martin, I broke the OS LA .10 in today, posted it in the Glow Forum. I tried to get Bob to order the head, no answer.

RE: Mini-Telemaster conversion
Hobbsy he was doing other stuff to day, personal biz. I did hack out the original fire wall, new one 1/8 ply cut some top and bottom sheeting for access and clearance New one 1 3/4" back from original
this is a well built bird will use a little dubro mount 4/40 caps and blind nuts to secure it/ will use the OS10 from the demised cub 2oz tank at least 15 minutes. THe OS 10 looks good diesel 9x3,4,5 will give 8500 to 10000 range my guess martin Just found an other TT/OS 10 head what to do??? just ordered a TT GP 10 have a few more planes including the replacmernt spare for the cub |
RE: Mini-Telemaster conversion
Martin, the little Tele came today, Bob has the head on the way, I have the aileron wing joined. I'm only going to have to move the firewall back about 3/4 inch. I just ordered the engine mount, a Dave Brown .9 to .11 and another micro servo. Hard to believe I don't have a suitable mount in my engine mount box.

RE: Mini-Telemaster conversion
Hobbsy How far out past the front will the rear of the prop be???
I found an other OS10 davis head just ordered a TTGP10 (maybe already said this?? 1/2 forum??_ looks like the squadron of mini teles conversions is under way I still have an other VMAR cub to replace the first one hence need an other 10 maybe should name it SPLAT ll martin They should really do a minor mod on the mini tele very simple ship with the electric mount and a blank one(not installed ) being its laser cut just have a series of those little square holes 2 per side spaced 1/2 inch apart the original spacing plus 2 more pairs in back of it then simple matter of gluing in your choice in the right location When you get Bobs head go a 9" prop drop the revs to 10000 |
RE: Mini-Telemaster conversion
I'll get a better read on it tomorrow. I haven't touched the fuse other than to look at it. The LA .10 turned a MA 8x4 at 12,500 plus on 10% fuel with 18% 80/20 lube. It did good.

The LA .10 Conversion head came today, its a gem, more later.

RE: Mini-Telemaster conversion
That looks nice, a much cleaner look compared to old style top finned one, well more "traditional diesel look"or maybe modern
diesel?? martin ( it only took him 30 years or so had to get that dig in) Now you could have bought a nice brushless motor $60 decent ESC $50 3 lith poly batteries maybe $40 each a fancy charger maybe $125 so for $350 you could have gone electric sort of like the joy of the Master card commerical and you cheaped out for about 100 bucks hmmmmmmmmm |
RE: Mini-Telemaster conversion
dup post see above martin
|
RE: Mini-Telemaster conversion
Martin, the engine mount came today for the .10 so I can accurately locate the firewall now.
|
RE: Mini-Telemaster conversion
Bet you will be about 1 and a half inchs back martin\ hope to mine installed tomorrow
|
RE: Mini-Telemaster conversion
I may get to work on it tomorrow PM.
|
RE: Mini-Telemaster conversion
How about a shot of the aircraft with the engine installed gentlemen?
I see a knurled thumbwheel under spring tension is used for compression adjustment on this conversion (and I presume other small conversion heads from Bob). Nice touch ... simple and effective. My Irvine.40 DDD head arrived today. |
RE: Mini-Telemaster conversion
Will do.

Do you see a trim mistake by the factory? I made 3/16ths hard balsa side reinforcing plates that precisely locate the new firewall, they are held in place by Hobby Lobby's Superphatic. The firewall, 3/16 inch, is 30 minute epoxied on the sides, top and bottom. The engine mount is just barely long enough for the .10. You can see the 5 oz Harry Higley Ultra Hub holding the firewall in place. I used very precise measurements and cuts so the original down and right thrust would be be accurate.

After trying to order aTT10 from thunder tiger 4U and getting a confirmation twice the order vanished a couple of e mails later to Vince who was very responsive via e mail he sent me a fax number to send the confirmation I was not charged just a glitch
in his on line ordering process. I just went down to Bobs hobby center in orlando and picked up an OS10LA on putting on a prop with no glow plug in the head noticed no pinch smooth as silk so put on the Davis head put on a XOAR 8x6 got a good tight hand hold on the engine gave it a few drops of Davis plane fuel in the carb after about 8 or 10 flips started right up and burned off the prime then repeated off it went in 6 flips. This one will never see glow fuel its going in the VMAR cub #2 remember # 1 is no more. The mini tele will be finished first . will see if I can beat Hobbsy to the punch this time martin pix taken 12/30/ should have been on a later post |

OK Deezel Gents, I'm this far along now, please don't notice that I put the horizontal stab on upside down. I have that exact covering so it's no biggy. I also have to fix the factory mistake anyway.
|
RE: Mini-Telemaster conversion
Hobbsy looks super the "side saddle" engine setup very clean Looks like you beat me to in progress
by the way went to Ace hardware today and picked up some weed eater gas line this stuff is really nice crystal clear and very flexible about the same as neoprene and of course you can see thu it it will be no issue in small tank with the clunk taking it to the bottom big improvement over the stiff amber stuff martin |
RE: Mini-Telemaster conversion
The curved fuse bottom below the engine is very soft wood, I took it out and will make a new removable bottom and build around the exhaust extension. I still have to paint the inside of the engine and fuel tank compartment with 50/50 epoxy and alcohol.

The 7/16th inch exhaust extension worked out perfectly. Do you think the opening will allow enough airflow behind the cylinder, I'm going to clean the hole up a little.
|
RE: Mini-Telemaster conversion
Wide open in the front and bottom I cannot see any cooling issues. I threw most of the plane on the scale engine, wing tail fus, battery but no servos or receiver it should come in under 20 oz at the most dry
Just noticed you said you are going to fill in under the engine If you do just open up a little more around the cylinder. Mine is going to be in the breeze the hatch will be behind the fire wall martin > If you will sheet the top I would leave the bottom open martin decided to go with the JR micro 35 servos for rudder and elevator 30z torque since have them and I have some sub micros I can use for throttle |
RE: Mini-Telemaster conversion
Usually you need 2-3 times the inlet area for good flow. In this case you inlet is huge so most of the air will spill over the front. it's hard to say if it will be enough to cool the engine adequately. About the only thing you can do is try.
|
RE: Mini-Telemaster conversion
I think it will be fine, the entire head and about two cooling fins will be out in the breeze.
