I have recently installed the FDR in my DD trying to find the fastest speed with different props. Has anyone else ? I have put some data into a excel spreadsheet and graphed to compare the data. I do not have it with me at the moment, however, with using a
7.2 X 8.6
7.5 X 7
8 X 6
8 X 7
9 X 5
9 X 6
I do not get as much variation as I though I would using a GRRT spinning 21-23k on the ground and 115 to 123 in the air. The FDR has the hi-speed mod. I tested in a car going 60 mph and the FDR varied between 52 and 57.
Has anyone found the sweet prop ?

wingsman,
I have a Dust with a GRRT and I found the best prop out of what I used to be an APC 7x9. It still has enough thrust to hand-launch vertically, and really comes up on the pipe nice. If you get the needle set just right you can get another step up on the pipe..you'll hear it exhaust note jump up to an even higher whine with a very noticable burst of acceleration. Be careful here though..you're right at the edge of going burning a plug out on every flight or 2 at this setting. If I rememeber right, I was getting 23.5-24k peak on the ground, then richen it to 21.5-22k for flying. I've retired my old Dust due to wear and tear...everything flexes while it flies giving very interesting trim changes at different speeds. I do have another in the box though, and a Data Recorder to put inside!
ChcukAuger,
Hey, long time no see! I haven't been on this site much for months...I'm at college now so it really eats up time. As they say; at college you have 3 things you need: do homework, a social life, and sleep. However, you only have time for 2 of those, and usually sleep is the one that suffers... oh well. Back to classes...

Hey Carl! Yeah, I remembered your GRRT powered Dust, but like you said, you've not been around so I didn't know what happened to you.
College! Man, that makes me feel old!! Seems like just yesterday you were just a whippersnapper. Take care, get good grades, and don't sleep too much
