Default Best Overall Prop-Jet?

Actually I have decided on a engine that fits all of my needs. It is light, powerful, and not that expensive...

I have chosen to use the webra speed 50.

It is about $140 and fits into my price range and from what I hear the patriot should haul major a** with it and with a tuned pipe forget about it... I am shouting for speeds of 120-130mph. So it should be good what do you think...

Default Best Overall Prop-Jet?

have had two Patriots with the Speed 50...stock muffler, 9-9APCprop...radared at 127mph.... for its weight, power and rpm, it leaves the others in the dust, even with their pipes..high quality, durable and affordable....

Default Best Overall Prop-Jet?

When you get a plane flyin' over 120 mph....the stresses on the air-frame increase a whole lot....if you want to do continuous snap-rolls at full speed, and real tight loops...get a stunt plane, and fly it at 70, 80 for the stunts. If you start flyin' a jet like a Fun-Fly 40....your'e askin' for trouble.

Really????? I routinely fly tight loops, and big loops, and snap rolls, and any other aerobatics I can imagine with my BVM Bobcat. I have done snaps at very high speeds and have not had any problems.......do you think I need to start flying a trainer forty too??? BTW I have done about the same with my Bandit as well. I agree with you that stresses increase with speed but... with a well designed airplane high G manouvers are no big deal. Who says a jet can't do aerobatics!

Default DavidR

Thanks for the "Jet" input....the BVM Bobcat is a different breed of cat.
We're talkin' about "Joe-smucko"...straight rib, balsa kits, film covered....with a couple dabs of epoxy here and there, to try and keep the wing on.

Seller20....the kid i was trying to advise...is 16 yrs old, and wants to step up a bit...with his new patriot project....my hat's off to the kid. I don't know how proficient the young man is at building airplanes, especially 125 mph jobbers.

I simply said that continueous snap rools at that speed...might not be a good idea.

"I agree with you that stresses increase with speed but... with a well designed airplane high G manouvers are no big deal".

No kidding ?
Is this what your exulting ?
This wing could probably pull 3 to 5 times the G's our little "rib and spar" planes could.

Default Looks kinda' "beefy"...

Is that wing balsa skinned, or plywood skinned, and glassed ?
Looks like a lot of metal, and composites in there...
How 'bout that fuse...glassed ?
That twin boom set-up looks pretty stout...

Garsh-Wiz...your right...."Who says a jet can't do aerobatics"!

Just think....seller20.....for only about $8-10 GRAND ( or more )
you too can do "high-speed acrobatics"....just like the big-boys.

This is what our new friend DavidR is talkin' about.... pic

Actually, I prefer methanol and castor bean oil....kerosine stinks, and makes my eyes water....

Thanks for the input guys but I think $8-$10K is a little out of my reach...

Now eugene were you using a stock setup or were you using a tuned pipe...

Well flyboy...... you are right about a couple of things..... the Bobcat is well desgined, but.... if seller20 wants to do high speed snap rolls with his patriot he can the airframe is well designed and plenty strong.

Here are a few clarifications maybe even YOU can understand.... Jets can do aerobatics, so can prop jets.

The Bobcat does not cost 8-10 thousand dollars. around 2500 for the kit and around 2500 for a good JetCat P-80 engine.

You did not clarify what airplane you simply stated....in an expert tone I might add..... that when you get a plane flying over 120 mph that the stresses increase a whole lot. I disagree, the stresses are still there at slower speeds, and they do not go up exponentially as the speed increases past 120 mph.

I was not knocking you simply disagreeing with your statement. But after all.....you are the expert...what do I know. Also I am not knocking what you fly don't knock what I fly.

we were using the stock muffler with the tube reamed out 1/32...not too pretty but......the Webra will be broken in and ready to sing when in between compression strokes, you can blow on the prop and it will move easily...

Stick your hand out the window.... Is that not a law of physics?

I don't know squat...apparently!

$5,000.... Any amount that has a comma is too much for my blood

Default I know, Chuck...never fails, does it ?

All I said was I wouldn't recommend doing continous snap rolls at 125 with the "Patriot"....he must not have read the thread.

Quote "Here are a few clarifications maybe even YOU can understand.... Jets can do aerobatics, so can prop jets. "

I didn't say they couldn't.......I didn't say I was an "Expert".

I showed S2O the construction in the BobCat so he could see how they are built like steel, and the differences.

How much would you say it would cost to put one up ? With a near top of the line radio, the high-buck servos. the retracts, all the "guts", the glass and paint job, a coat of wax...and all the gear it takes to get the beast in the air ?

I didn't know that the stresses DO NOT increase as the speeds increase...did you ??? (LOL)

Dave.

P.S. I still say kerosine stinks...

Default 100?

At least a hundred-bucks! If you want to do it right....

Higher speed, same stress hmmm..... Why even sheet those wings then?

Default Razor...

Is that per flight.?

How did your Patriot go last Sunday ?

How many flights did you get in ?

I got 4 in with the F-20. The winds got real bad, and I packet it up. The Dago Red demise was still fresh on my scull...

Dave.

Actually you need to go re read your post you said....

If you start flyin' a jet like a Fun-Fly 40....your'e askin' for trouble.
....and various other ramblings.

I didn't criticise you only stated that a REAL jet can fly high G aerobatics. As can a Patriot.

Yes stresses do go up, BUT not exponentially and not at a magic number of 120 mph! Read the post!

Eugene what do you mean by the tube being reamed out to 1/32, and how can this be done...

Is it good to do after or before you brake in the engine...

And that by itself will really boost up the rpms?

Just by making the outlet tube larger....

Now will that also work on an o.s. 46 FX too, or do you need a different sized hole...

We are talking about the hole on the muffler that the smoke comes out of.

Sorry if I'm a pane I just don't want to spend another $144...
