As to the bit larger elevators ( another mod of mine) I am aware of the possible danger of flutter that this may cause but I am just trying to (maybe) reduce the amount of throw needed or make them even more effect. I have on all control surfaces sealed the gap even if they are a close fit.

We can see from your great video that the SU flies well in its stock form which attest to your building skills and Alex's fine Kit ...BUT... i on the other hand like to try ( and may fail ) small mods that may help improve the over all flight ( if at at possible ). Mind you the only way that I can prove that they work is to have Don finish his SU in stock form ( not likely ) and have him fly mine and I his to see what the effect is.

Ah the Fun of it all .....

Let me know how it works out! The wing bolt blocks are around 3 times thicker than the wing bolt plate. When the block is tapped it has a lot of threads to help hold down the thin very thin plate. Yours is going through the thick threaded part first and then into the thin plate with nothing behind it. also If you ever have the gear block pulled out with a rough landing it is now integrated into the wing structure!!! It may also pull out your wing bolt block and plate... that would be a mess... would rather keep the two structures seperate.... especially the gear.

Fortunately it is only a shear load on the bolt and the plate... will probably work ok... just was not designed that way!

Hey Rich,

I am building a SU and was wondering what spinner you used? It looks like an ultimate? What size did you use?

Go to cermark models for the spinner! I put a link below for you. Part #SR265LN. You cant beat a $12 aluminum long nose Jet spinner! Tru-turn only makes a 2.25" or a 2.75" (to small or to big) Either way its at least $50. It does need to be balanced and it is heavier than a tru-turn. It is an odd size as well (2.65") and requires you to fabricate a custom nose ring and balsa cowl pieces! They used to use this spinner with the old F-16 and F-20 arf's.

http://www.cermark.com/Merchant2/mer...t_Code=SR265LN

This was one of the future posts I was going to put up later, Figured I would put it up now! I was wondering when someone was going to ask that!

Guys... remember that the "wing hold down" is just there to keep the wings from sliding off the alu tube... it doesn't need much. It doesn't really matter where what is tapped, as long as can keep the wings from getting their own life...

I agree though that having the holes on the bottom is just one less "non-scale" item visible...

I trying to decide what engine to put in my SU. I am currently considering a OS .91FX, a Magnum XLS .91, and an ASP 1.08a. My budget is just about maxed at $200 so I don't see the Jett at $335 in my future. I know the model was designed around the OS, but the Magnum ASP may have a better power to weight ratio.

Here are the HP figures I have seen.

OS 2.8 hp
Magnum 2.65 and 2.96 hp
ASP 3.0 and 3.2hp

Any help would be appreciated!

I had a .91FX that never ran right... I have seen many at my field have one dead stick after another. They ultimately refunded my money in full. That is when I purchased my first Jett.

Consider a Thunder Tiger .91 PRO or a Tiger Shark .91. I have a Thunder Tiger .46 PRO that performs flawlessly! I have been waiting to see a review or hear from anyone about how the .91 runs! chief aircraft has them in stock. Not sure how the TS .91 runs. Check with Alex at AKM.

Alex at AKM has the TS .91 for $99. http://akmodels.bizland.com/ts91ring.htm

Chief aircraft. http://www.chiefaircraft.com/cgi-bin...nderTiger.html

Just a word of advice to my fellow speed demons.. IF YOU EVER HAVE A CHOICE BETWEEN A JETT OR ANOTHER ENGINE..... THERE IS NO CHOICE... The Jett is just a work of art. As soon as you unwrap it.. well we all remember our first sexual experience...
OK OK maybe not that nice of a package, but you get my meaning..

I agree, there is no substitute, most do not want to shell out the $330. I had a that OS .91FX in my Cermark F-16, when it ran, it was only a marginal performer at best. A friend let me borrow his Jett .90L to try in the F-16. IT WAS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT AIRPLANE! I was sold from that day on.

The Flanker and any other prop jet are what the Jett .90L were intended for!

You guys are making me question my priorities! O.K. I guess I could give put a 2-stroke in my Fokker D. VII that I am building instead of a 4-stroke. That would save some money for the Jett. Or, I could just forget about feeding the horses for a week, Or, I could forget about feeding the kids. Hey, I know... If I don't feed any of them for a month I could buy a Mig too!

Now your getting your priorities in line.. I understand the price difference, been there myself. But the difference in performance is worth the satisfaction of seeing speed at your command.. And talking alittle trash with the other speed demons..

The pilot is a modified plastic Williams Brothers pilot. I think it was a 1 1/2 or 2" military! I have not been able to get the aluminum diverter to stay on... so i switched to the dubro rubber one! Anyone got any ideas for how to get a Macs diverter to stay on a Jett pipe! The aluminum one looks better!

Drill a hole and safety wire it on.

Slip the extension on. Smear some high temp RTV on the outside of the muffler outlet. This will help prevent actual metal to metal contact (unless the fit is tight). Then drill a hole (same size as the safety wire) through the extension and the pipe outlet extension. Then thread safety wire though the hole and wrap and twist.

You're not drilling that big of a hole. Hardly noticeable when you take the extension off for something else.

Don

Okay, it's no "MinnFlyer" quality graphic, but you get the idea:

Looks clean.... how do you know if it has gone through the wing bolt plate?

If the wing doesn't pull out and the bolt stays put, that's a good check. But because of the concern, I discussed this with Pete in AIM chat. I'm just going to put a plate/block on the top and bottom of the wing tab (sandwiching the wing tab) and thread the top block. Should lock it down no problem.
