C4F, I may do just that! I saw a cover of RCM about 5yrs ago and told my wife "that looks like Proud Lake"! She just rolled her eyes like usual, then I read the story and found I was right on! I swam all over that place when I was a kid. While I was in HS my parents moved to Silver Lake, which pretty much ended the need to go to B.A.B. I have been threatening to come up for that fly-in for a few years now. This summer may be it.
So Kid do I still qualify as a speed prop guy? Huh, huh, do I?[>:] That was 3 F-20 Tigersharks, 3 F-16s, 1 F-18, 1 X-29, 2 SR-71s, a Brown B-2, and 1 Northstar.

Viceman,
The float fly is at Island Lake State Park at I-96 and Kensington road. One year there was 6 Northstars. A few years ago I highly modified NorthStar it had retracts, bubble canope, OS.61 pumped and fuel tank in fuse on CG. Kool started it up taxied down the beach and into the lake.

yeah, its a F-1... we spent another thread trying to figure out what it was. Looks like a Lyle Larson kit from the early 90s - cant recall exactly the name.
Kills me to think I GAVE AWAY my old Toni. Was the only survivor of my X-40 days Would be so much fun now.

The yellow and red airplane (post #29, by rqscomputers) is definitely a Formula 1 model, definitely an Estrellita. It is probably not from Jim Gager's kit because the cheeks aren't big enough. It may be from Jerry Small's kit, judging by the cut line in the cowl. Jerry had a very handy way of doing cowls, basically removed half the fuselage ahead of the firewall. That made it easy to deal with all the Rube Goldberg plumbing on those rear-intake nitro burners. He used 3/32" steel wire locator pins on one side of the seam, and embedded short sections of Prather fuel tubing on the other side of the seam, so the assembly wouldn't fracture due to vibration. If it weren't for the current rule in Q40 limiting us to lightweight, taped-on covers, I'd make them all that way. Jerry's smarter than he looks.

Duane, I think you hit on it..... Gager's Estrellita - maybe.
I showed the post to Dub, Helsel and Jerry.... they said it wasnt one of Jerry's planes. Dub noted that Larson may have made an Estrellita for a while too.

Vicman,
Who makes those SR-71's? They look like electric pushers? I would love to have a Jett .90 sized pusher SR-71. I have a Balsa USA Enforcer kit on the way and a set of RC Modeler's SR-71 plans. I tend on kit bashing the Enforcer to look SR-71-ish. Mostly the fuselage will be shaped like the SR-71. I may or may not add the engine tubes to the wings.

Vicman,
So those are just rockets that pop a chute and float down? Or do they take off like a rocket and then glide down under R/C? Freeflight?

I found one 1 of mines, my late Ripmax Rapier. Was great fun doing huge great big vertical dives and blatting along the runway at zero feet. I will replace it at some point.

Spiffy lookin BB! I have a set of those plans. They looked a little hinky on the rudder linkages is why I haven't started it yet. Plus I already got a few projects on the table. How bout I just come up there and watch you fly yours.[8D]
