RE: Speed Freaks Wanted
FYI. The two and three engine versions of 41.5's rocket car launched down the street in true Revver fasion yesterday! We were using Estes B 6 engines which gave me a combined thrust of a C 12 and C.5 18[X(]. We had a little damage at the end of the run when it wandered into the grass and took off the front wheels. No worries tho we got her fixed and ready to go with some CA and kicker. Video shows the car did leave the ground (about an inch or two)for a few feet at the end of both burns, so we intend to add a little more downforce control area.[sm=bananahead.gif][>:]

RE: Speed Freaks Wanted
This ones for FBD, thanks for the encouragement earlier, but I feel I dont have much to contribute to this forum, as my knowledge as far as speed goes , is rather limited although growing.. so I feel it might be better if I go it alone so to speak, you know the ol' trail and error thing, any way this is to officially let you know that #95 has now been vacated and should be handed out to someone who can contribute something more worthwhile...
cheers boys..and rev on

RE: Speed Freaks Wanted
I am interested in joining the brotherhood.
I have been in RC for 4 years, and interested in speed planes for about a year.
I also am very naive, but trying to learn.
Last week, I lost my duellist, which was clocked at 119 on the flat and 128 out of a dive........
I am always trying different prop/fuel combos (on all my planes) to get a higher top speed.
I have a radar gun and also use (time between points) to measure speed.......
I'll try to attach a picture of my duellist, please ignore the goofball in the background......

Thanks for the response.
I would love to join, what do I have to do to sign up?
Who should I contact, #1?
......I don't have to sign away my first born, or something like that, do I?[]
...If it were my wife, that wouldn't be so bad.....
just kidding, she is great. Seriously, I'm not sure what the process involves, any help would be appreciated
Thanks,
Stu

Hello Flyboy Dave
I`m applying to the speed freaks brotherhood.I always have loved fast planes and have built a few. I`m posting a picture of my Scratchbuilt P-51 Stilleto Powered by a ROSSI.45 SP that has been modified a little. A few guys at the field had tried to catch it with Jett.50 powered models but have fallen short.I Have also over the years built a few quickies from scratch. I will post a pic of one of them built about 4 years back. I know I qualify as a Speed freak.

Hello Flyboy dave
I knew I had it. been a speed freak since 1969 when I joined the Air Force and became an aircraft Mech. I have two OS .40 FP I reworked that really humm and It can pull a Lanier predator at a 130 mph level flight on 15% cool power. I hope you like the photo they have brought me pleasure since 2003 and still have a lot of compression.

Hello Strykaas
Yes it is a pressure nipple. I decided to place it there to use crankcase pressure since engine suction is diminished with the big venturi I`m using.I could get more pressure out of the muffler but It was more convinient to have the press line within easy reach.I only use 2 lines on my tank one to the needle valve and the other from the muffler to the tank. I used that way and it helps with the starting since all I have to do is flip the prop backwards slowly and watch the pressure line for fuel going directly into the crank case. Once engine is primed this way I pinch the pressure line and stat flipping.I Don`t use electric starters on my engines you can do damage to the engines with them. By hand flipping I can feel if is flooded and avoid bending a connecting rod. Once they start running I release the pinch and engine runs flat out. I have surprised a few guys that thought that just because the OS .40 FP is a cheap plain bearing engine that they can catch it. It has been a lot of fun using these engine.

RE: Speed Freaks Wanted
Hi, my name is Electric Delta, and I am a Speed Plane Addict.
I have been a Lover of Speed Planes for 20+ years,
and with the help of the Revvers Brother-hood I hope to
make my planes even FASTER !!!
Don't let my wife/girlfriend see this....I promised her I
would "tame it down a bit.
Just finished up a Lanier Shrike .40, with OS .46 SF ABC-P,
going to maiden her this weekend, along with a second-
hand Magnum I picked up on eBay, that now has a Jett
.50 on it. Rev on Brothers!

RE: Speed Freaks Wanted
Well, I can say I am speed freak and looking for faster and faster prop planes. I usually put the maximum power engine up front, don't have a speed gun but my latest pattern plane designed for a 90 or max 120 has a YS140L up front; it is a large plane and takes off like a !QUOT!bat out of ----!QUOT! and thats a quote from my fellow flyers. Nothing (in my own experiences) beats what happened a couple of years ago while continuing to speed up a pattern plane, a Calypso..one day eventually, it exceeded its maximum permissible speed in a straight line (probably well in excess of 130mph could have been 145mph) and literally disintegrated in mid-air; pieces of the plane just floated down on the runway while the engine kept running at idle (YS 91FZ) on what was left of the fuselage and ended up on the ground 400 feet away with no damage whatsoever. The 91FZ found a home in a VQ P40; I am replacing the 91FZ with a 110FZ, on order. Looking for a new home for the 91FZ. I think a fellow flyer has another Calypso..who knows.
Cheers

RE: Speed Freaks Wanted
Hi Strykaas,
I got this plane built and "pre-crashed" off of that large auction website. It had been hastily and shoddily
repaired; just well enough to look halfway ok in the picture. First hand inspection revealed a lot of things that
didn't suit me, and one was the flimsy torque rods (1/16" !!!). Putting in new 3/32" or 1/8" torque rods
after-the-fact looked like it would be a real pain. I ended up stripping it down and re-doing a lot more than
anticipated; lopped off the nose and shortened it, lopped off the stabilizer and built a new one (fully-sheeted),
new fins without the lower extension to get caught in the grass. I had a suspicion that the plane probably
crashed due to aileron flutter from the weak linkages and decided I wanted two JR DS3301 wing servos and
pushrods direct to the aileron horns. They are rock-solid now; the servos install from the bottom (plywood
hatches) and the pushrods are routed out the top to keep the aileron horns out of the grass, important for
this mid-wing belly-lander. The changes to the nose and tail were mostly for balance, I'd read here in the
forums that the Shrike .40 tends to come out noseheavy. I got mine to balance without adding any weight,
though the battery is in the very rear of the radio compartment. I also rotated the engine about 15 degrees
to the left as seen from behind, to raise the pipe to clear the wing; the pipe is exactly parallel to the thrust
line to cut drag and minimize effects on the trim. All in all, the plane has come out pretty nice, but I probably
would have been better off just building the whole kit rather than fixing this one up... oh well, hindsight is
always 20/20, and that's the risk you take when you buy sight unseen. All up weight is now 4 lbs. 3 oz., not
the lightest, but should be ok. The maiden flight will be tomorrow afternoon, I've got my fingers crossed
that all my work has been worth it. My flying buddy also has a Shrike .40 with the same engine, so with any
luck we'll be chasing each other all over the sky!

Oh Hi Vicman,
I didn't see in your post you were from NC too. I've met quite a few guys in clubs along I-40 racing the
House of Balsa AT-6's the past two seasons. The closest I got to Valdese was at CVRC in Claremont
near Hickory. I normally fly at CCRC near High Point where I am a member, a very friendly club and
we welcome visitors. Check us out at www.ccrcm.com!
