Chuck flew Whip's with both a Rossi-65DF and another DF engine I cannot remember the displacement... One wrapped up when he lost a prop blade as I recall---
#128
The last one was powered by a Rossi .80 I believe... I also seem to recall he changed the induction on that engine, from disc to drum, if memory serves me right. Threw a blade off an APC 9x8 at 20+ Krpm and the engine subsequently took the front end right of that Whip.
I think I still have the pics... since I was going to do something similar... but the Whips are history[

Good to see ya in here Cobra! To be honest they fly VERY similar. The Phenom is obviously better looking but take longer to build than a Whip (still a quick build though). I flew them pretty much back to back and I know Vic said the Phenom was faster but I have different engine combo's in each so that is not a good measure
The Phenom would be capable of higher speeds due to the cowling, and covered up linkages...I will probably end up getting another one to put a FIRE in-
Oakdale put a LOT of thought into making a slick delta...I am emotionally attached to the Whip's but those elevon hinges are scary stiff even on the Whip-X.
I ended up getting another K&B-48 (Ebay- $48 bucks) so it'd be interesting to outfit both with the same engine, prop. fuel, exhaust, etc.
The Whip has the K&B-48 with an Ultrathrust (huge performance gain)
The Phenom has an OS-50SX with a Tower muffler. I did not tach the 2 that particular day but the K&B with the UT is stronger than the SX generally so If Vic swears the Phenom is faster with the less potent engine combo, than that is more evidence...
I really need a digital scale so I can weigh each of them...

Oh yeah Cobra- I flew my Magnum with the West-50, and even though it was surging so it was rarely on the pipe (9x7apc) it was noticeably faster than both deltas.
I have a Rifle from Angel that will be on the way so I plan top put the West in that thing...
I am trying to do another 1 day at least, thing at Rabbit at the end of next month- you available? You got another DD or anything to fly?

Hi Razor:
I actually have another POS (Piece of *****) Diamond Dust and a pair of sleek, brand spanking new double-Ds (no not boobs
) (so 3 Diamond Dusts total RTF--although the new pair are less receivers).
The POS Dust (pictured below) is in such bad shape, that it has to be retrimmed on every flight, not much fun [:'(]
I still have the Magnum which cut through the wind much better than the Diamond Dusts. The Diamond Dust is so light, that it really was being blown around in that Rabbit wind (like a big sail). I also have a F-20 with a Jett 50, but that plane looks so cool, I haven't even flown it yet
How was the wind at the March Revvers at Rabbit?

Izzy- It depends on the airframe. The Whiplash has a Kevlar belly so it is barely scraped up after many landings on blacktop and at the Rabbit lake-bed. The Phenom is fiberglass and has a pretty sturdy belly also, I have only flown it once but I am not worried about the bellies.
I glassed the belly of my Magnum and when that wears off, I will just glass 'er again!
Cobra- Looks like you have some cool stuff to fly. The DD does not look too bad to me, although your other one WAS "well used". I would have posted that post-crash pic. but Vic the man beat me to it--- If you need an unbiased third party (who is not emotionally attached to the airplane) to maiden the F-20 I will volunteer.

When do you wanna fly at Rabbit Cobra?

Of course, followed by the classic cause of all RC plane crashes, "I think that someone shot-me down, there was some kind of interference or maybe it was just plane [hehe little plain pun] radio failure!"

BTW, does anybody know who makes my F-20 (I bought it here on RCU)?

Razor: The RCU Video site was taken down and a new one put up. All the videos were dumped. I re-uploaded your video of your maiden. But let me tell ya', this "new" RCU Videos site is FUBAR! It took an exceedingly long time to upload that very short video so you guys won't be seeing much of my stuff on RCU Videos site anymore. I'm particulary peeved about my 28 other videos being dumped. I am bashing the Phenom and putting my "Augered" Rossi-60 on it....It will probably take a roll of quarters to balance near the tail but it seemed like a kick in the pants anyhow.
I am thinking about putting some landing gear on for the first flight to give myself more than 1.3 seconds on launch to see if she'll go or not- This thing is going to be a tank!
