LOL, your right Mike sadly that is so true...
So are there going to be future runs of the SD?
I understand your modeling efforts have been sidelined because of your work, your .65 version looks pretty sweet by the way.
I should have some progress to post on my electric version shortly.

Yes, but I am so freaking far behind it is embarrassing. I booked two weeks off work over the Xmas holidays - my first long break in 3 years - and the goal is to get some parts made and make the drive to the balsa and laser cutting supplier. This is where I should have been in September..
The .65 looks cool, it's a ***** to fly but I started getting used to it before winter struck. If I get my act together and build a twin rail delta launcher this winter I might actually look forward to flying it rather than fearing the hand launch.
I have to get the .15-.25 version on line too. It flies sweetly and would be a perfect lekkie convert, 400-800W (yeah yeah, or more ) on a 3S 2100 or so. Need some advice on the best way to design the motor mount to be builder friendly for electric.. I'm a dweeb with electrics and don't know the best configuration for the masses. Firewall rather than nose ring mounting would be easier on a ply/balsa kit like this.

Mike I have been building them so the motor mount is forward of the motor. I think you have seen my PQ Stingray and SD builds take a look at what I did for the forward engine mounts for electrics.
The launcher takes a lot of stress out of getting the airborne.
I am thinking of doing one up for a Neu motor with a bit larger setup to accommodate the larger diameter motor, something like the 1521 on 6 cells.

Many years ago when I first discovered this forum there were a lot of Diamond Dust threads.
I wanted to build one, so it was a simple matter to find out the basic dimensions and I built my own.
Mine differed from the original with the way I built the engine mount and the center section to house the fuel tank and radio gear.....but at any rate it flew just fine.
The "airfoil" isn't critical, just keep it the same thickness as the original and you will be OK.
The original Diamond Dust airfoil with 4 flat sides did the job with the sag of the covering material forming the actual airfoil between the 2 ribs.

In late December I bought a small laser cutter, big enough (just!) to do the SD kits myself. Before that I used outside services, but I got tired of that. I am still on the learning curve on the cutter, but hope to be functional on it soon. So there is hope production will resume in the foreseeable future..

thanks for the reply personally.. please PM me if you are able to get "the bugs out" is your kit nitro or electric or both? I have my .46vxdf from my DD that got fuel soaked.

It's similar to the DD - designed for .40 sized engines. It is a bit faster due to the thinner wing. Also flies great on .32/.35 engines. They have been flown variety of engines, including Nelson FAI .40, OPS Speed .65, OS .77 VR-DF. A good strong .45-.50 will get you going like a bat out of you know where and with a light wing loading. Your OS will work great, though you'll need an appropriate prop (no kidding, but you know what I mean!).
