Default OS 91VRDF exhaust

Has anyone ever used a ducted fan pipe set-up for prop use, or is it better to go with the typical header/pipe set-up for this. I know you would have to mount the pipe more securely so its not flopping around.

the ducted fan setup is fine as long as its length is right for your prop, and of course that its firmly held by bracket..

Macs Pipe?
from center of glow plug/piston - 30cm to belly of pipe
start around 32 and trim down

trim pipe and prop to hit 20,k minimum on ground - this will make you smile in the air.

What kind of fuel do you like to use and nitro content for this propped DF engine rocketbob?

Not this discussion

50-50 castor blend and add another ounce or 2 of castor to a gallon
start 10% nitro and see how your plugs hold out

The extra castor will not hurt you

walk then run? Eh?

Or do what CP or MJD would do

I have a friend with one in his Yellow F-4E (Dynamax fan )
He runs Wildcat DF fuel which is 5% nitro and 23% oil. Not sure of the exact ratio of synth to castor but I believe it's at least 1/3 castor.

We used to have a LOT of DF activity over here at Griffiss (formerly AFB ) until they closed it down...the most I've ever heard of anyone using was 10% nitro in the O.S.
That was for longevity sake...but if you're willing to push it I'm sure you could bump it up some with the appropriate shimming, etc. etc.

I usually use OMEGA 15% and top up the jug w/ synth klotz oil for my engines, but this engine is obviously a little different, would the 10% omega be alright topped up with castor? [sm=72_72.gif]

It typically takes about 4 to 5 oz. to fill a (new ) gallon jug right up to the top. That should bring the total oil content of your Omega to somewhere around 21 to 22%,which should be ok.

I still run glow ducted fan planes, both the .40 and the OS .90 FYI the Old K&B 45 is a great prop engine. Anyway fuel wise I use omega 10% then add 3oz of turbine oil to the gallon. The turbine oil will not break down at the temps glow engines run. I like the BP 2380 its what we use in our gulfstream biz jets. I have never lost an engine the fuel set up also works great is YS 45's
