RE: Speed Freaks Wanted- Over 200 Members already !
SRV,
You coming to the rally this year? I'm working on making this one even better than last year. |
RE: Speed Freaks Wanted- Over 200 Members already !
Ah man I'd love to say yeah for sure, but that'll get me into trouble, all I'm going to say is I'm hoping to come.:D

So I ended up changing out my ESC to a ICE Lite 100 on my Sunracer. I was pushing the 80 and also wanted data logging. Here is my first flight on the ICE 100. Readings look good. Does anyone know what temps are normal?

Looks like you had a bunch of spectators. ;)

RE: Speed Freaks Wanted- Over 200 Members already !
Is that battery, motor, or esc temp?
140 is too hot for a battery or ESC IMO. I try to keep them under 130. Some motors can withstand quite a bit of heat, not sure about the Neu though. How fast?! |
RE: Speed Freaks Wanted- Over 200 Members already !
The temp is for the ESC. Notice it only spiked there for a second and was back down after that. I beleive it was during landing, so a spike there makes sense.

ORIGINAL: vicman SRV, You coming to the rally this year? I'm working on making this one even better than last year. Your answer to the question about coming this year is going to be no, I just found out my sister's wedding is on the 25th, I probably shouldn't miss it, because I'm the one that's taking her down the isle, unless my ghost does it for me.[&o] Ah shucks! I'm sure it'll be a blast though. |
RE: Speed Freaks Wanted- Over 200 Members already !
It's gonna be a good one[8D]
Punch Mike in the neck and get someone to ride down with him.:) |
RE: Speed Freaks Wanted- Over 200 Members already !
At least I know now not then to find another driving partner! And I got that doggone SD 65 a few screw turns away from being flight ready now, along with a couple of more mundane efforts.

Very nice Chris.
I was just thinking about you on my way home from work Friday. When are you heading back down here? |
RE: Speed Freaks Wanted- Over 200 Members already !
Hello Vic. im not leaving here soon enough Iknow that much. Its been a long cold snowy winter here. Im hopeing to get down that way in may for the fun soar and then back in june for the rally. thats the plan for now. Ive been considering moving back after the way its been here. Not much of a chance to fly unless you brave the three feet of snow.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...n/drowning.gif
Hows things your way? Is everything looking good for the rally? |

RE: Speed Freaks Wanted- Over 200 Members already !
Blank, would you consider coming to beautiful NC for the speed rally? This is the Revver Brotherhood event of the year. Especially for the right coast contingent.
|
RE: Speed Freaks Wanted- Over 200 Members already !
Hey Vicman don't know if I can make that trek, missed Joe Nall due to work schedule and distance from my location. When and where in NC will the speed rally take place, it's unfortunate we don't have a speed rally in the tristate area.

I'm about two hours north of Triple Tree. You would really like a day of all speed ships.

Lost an old friend on July 4th. My Lanier "Shrike" with K/B 7.5cc RE went straight in on the downline of a split-S. It was ugly but the plane was well past it's expected lifespan with numerous engine replacement and rebuilds over 10 years. I will build another but I feel like my favorite pet has died.
The reason I am posting is because over the years I have encountered servo failures due to fatigue ( servo motor burn-out ) and harmonic vibration from the extreme engine RPM's. I have had these failures with both analog and digital servos. Are any of you guys experiencing the same? Speedy Rev'ver Bro "184 ( I think! ) |
RE: Speed Freaks Wanted- Over 200 Members already !
Hate to hear about your loss brother [&:]
So far I haven't had any major failures but some reliability issues for sure. I used to use the cheaper 3003 Futaba servos for the elevator/rudder set-up on my quickies and had centering issues as the planes got faster. Then I moved to 3004s for the bearings. These worked a little better but had a very short lifespan, like 30 flights, before the same centering issue. Moving to a higher class of servo is seeming to keep things in control better. |
RE: Speed Freaks Wanted- Over 200 Members already !
I started out with the standard JR 531's and then after about 6 servo failures I switched to the JR ( Spektrum ) DS-821's with about same results and the ultimate demise of my Shrike. Guess I might have to step up a bit and go to a more top end servo. I am thinking about the Hitec HS-5625/45 MG's. Seems a bit overkill but the 821's at 72 in. ozs. are not doing the job. I have had great luck with the Hitec HS-5645 MG's on my giant warbirds and 50cc aerobatic stuff.
