Default How do I do this?

Hi guys,

I have a Futaba 18MZ and I am busy setting up smoke.

First - What I want to achieve is to control the smoke with my throttle, but only have it switch on above 35% throttle. In other words I don't want the smoke pump to work when my throttle is less than 35% open.

Second - I want to be able to switch the smoke complete off from a two position switch.

Third - I want to control the amount of smoke with a normal end point setting.

Reason for all this; I fly a turbo prop and don't want smoke oil injected when the turbine is at less than 35% as it may choke the engine at low rpm. Also I cannot have the throttle always switch on the smoke above 35% as I need to open the throttle during the start-up of the turbine and then don't want oil being injected.

So as an end result I would like to do the following:

- Start my turbine as per normal and pull back to idle.
- Then switch on the smoke function without the smoke pump starting up.
- When I now advance the throttle past 35%, the smoke pump should switch on and deliver the volume of oil that I had set as maximum, using an end point for the smoke function.

I hope my explanation is sufficient, but please ask me to clarify any confusing bits.

Thanks for your help.

This FAQ was written for th e14MZ, but it applies equally to the 18MZ:

Bax,

This is not working for me, here is part of the reference that you've quoted: I have made comment in ((brackets)) where I have a problem.

You will want to exit the Condition screen now, (leaving your switch set to the Up position as that you remain in Condition 2 and go back to the Function screen in your Linkage menu. This time you will again go to the channel 8 Fuel-Mix (or whichever function you have your pump on) and make sure that both Control and Trim are NULL. (( When I come back to the Function here, the control and trim is still as I had set them in the first place with the first condition - if I now change both to NULL, it also changes both to NULL in the first condition)).

Basically what I want to do is the following - please give me specific instruction on how to accomplish this:

- I want to use switch SA (which is a 2 position switch on my Tx) to switch the smoke pump on or off (regardless of my throttle stick position - see below).
- I also want to use my throttle stick (mode 1 J2) to start the smoke pump (if switched on with SA) at 30% throw and continue it working all the way up to 100% throw. When I bring the throttle back to idle (or below 30% throw) I want the pump to stop.

Thank you for your assistance.

Jan
