Default O.S. .46 SF Max Restorations; HELP!

Frankly one of the things I love most about model airplanes is the diversity of things to learn. I fell in love with my old O.S. .46 SF Max ABN engines a loooooong time ago. I was lucky with the plating issues some were plagued with. I have rebuilt and re-bearing several in the past and I had access to a big rack of parts at my local hobby shop. I decided to do some phoenix work on a couple that were run dry and Mystery oiled about 20 years ago. Now I'm looking for a recommendation on the material to re-cut the back plate gasket. Carefully removed and compressed for years miked out at .009 and seem to be like a vellum material. I have a lead on some resin soaked vellum gasket material but does anyone know if a fresh thickness is around? .015, ?????? Thanks.

(Also: I searched O.S. .46 SF for prior thread and got zip.)

Just use some card stock or inkjet paper. I've even gone so far to just use some RTV silicone in place of the paper gasket. As long as the crank doesn't rub the backplate when the prop is tightened, it is good to go.

Hey thanks. I read somewhere about card stock and it was my first choice when I couldn't find any old stock anywhere. Came across some stuff that is gasket material in a variety of thicknesses and I was just curious what the original thickness was since the crushed original was .009 and I was surprised it was so close to card stock which is about .010. I appreciate your info. Thanks.

Don't use regular gasket material as it continues to squish and cause your screws to loosen repeatedly.
