Is There a problem on your end?

For the last few days, I am unable to get to the site. Both at home and at work. It seems that if I pull up a thread posting in my email I can get here. Is there a problem or what? I am going through withdrawl here.
PLEASE HELP

I have tried unsuccessfully since last weekend to get on RCU by just using my bookmarks. At work I have a huge pipe for internet connections and at home use a Cable modem with a different service. Basically, the website starts to load, but never completes. I never even see a single graphic, or any part of the website load page. It never responds beyond that. Different services, different connection speeds, and different PC's. I am having to leave a response to a thread in my email inbox just to reach the site. Oh, and I have even typed in www.rcuniverse.com as well.
BTW: I just went into my post and clicked on the address above and no results.
Thanks for help.

Marc,
I don't know if you are looking at this or not, but wanted to let you know, that I am not the only person in our area unable to reach your website. I went by my LHS this afternoon and commented I could not get on the site and he said he was having the same problem. I don't know what is the cause, but hope that you are looking at this problem. All I can tell you was that the site worked well until sometime over the last weekend. I am using the same browser, the same OS, and can reach any other website that I try. I don't know where to look or what to give you as far as info, but you may, or may not have a serious problem. Although I wouldn't suspect that it is related, but we are in the 918 area code (Tulsa, Ok area), it is not related to just my home PC on Cox.net, but my work one as well that operates from a server at my office. We connect via T-1 facilities and then hop on a T-45 as far as I know. My work site serves about 1200 employees all with internet access. Since you have not posted anything, just wanted to update you on the condition here and let you know this is not just my problem.
If you look at Bruno Stachel's post a couple of post's down, he has the same problem and is in KY.
Thanks/Mike

Marc,
In answer to your question, NO. What I ended up doing was deleting the cookies and then tried to reach the site. I was successful, but the server (?) didn't recognize my password. It did respond to "hookedonrc", but would not accept the password that I originally had. I finally, after asking for help several times, just sent in a request to get my log in information sent to my email. This took 2 tries before I received the information. When I got it, my password was completely different that I had ever seen. I have no clue where it came from, or why it was changed.
Respectfully, Marc, I was disappointed in your lack of responding to my repeated requests on my original post. I felt the least you could do was give me some hints on what I might do. I tried everything that I could think of and finally decided to delete the cookies. You have always been very good about getting back to other posters. (including me) I felt that my problem was not addressed or did I get any help on what the problem might be. I know the moderators, especially you, do a great job, and are extremely busy, but I did feel ignored.
Anyway, water under the bridge, as far as I am concerned. So, I guess really what puzzles me is why my log in ID did stay the same, but somehow my password was changed. That I can not answer, but am concerned as to why it is now different. I even went back to my notes and found that I did, in fact, have the right password. However, that said, I am just glad to be back on the site. It is a great one.
Thanks/Mike

Mike,
As far as I know our password reset doesn't change your password. I'm not 100% sure of it but that is my recollection. If it doesn't than the only way it could change is if you changed it at some point or if we entered another one at some point when you sent a trouble ticket that it was lost maybe?
I don't check the support forum every day but I do try to. Most of the time I do but sometimes I can go a day or more without being in this forum while working on other things or just personal stuff has me away from the computer.

No, Marc, i had a similar problem, and when I cleaned out my cookies, I also had to request my login info.
My password was also changed. The original one I had didn't work..
I figured it changes with every 'login info request'
But the password did become my 'password hint'

OK guys, I'm stumped. Where did you go to retrieve your password? Was it off the home page? Or was it off the login page with the two boxes (sign in / sign up)?
On the page you requested from, did you try getting your email using the hint?
The code to update your password is not there....I don't know how this happens unless there is an old form on our site leftover from when we did alter your password for security.

I remeber we had to 'log in' and enter a reminder for our password, or somthign as such. My reminder became my password.
I had originally requested my password about 6 months ago when my machine crapped out, and have been successful since then.
Recently, with this change, I tried to log in again (after purging all my cookies) I then went to log in again, but it didn't accept my orginal password. So, I requested it again (from the log in screen), and a different one came back; my 'hint' word..
I remeber I had two choices for the password, either e-maield to me, or online, with a valid e-mail adress. the valid e-mail adress didn't seem work, so I had it e-mailed..

My process was similar. There was a difference though. I don't remember ever selecting a hint question. I did come over from the old site and pretty much got logged in (I guess) with the cookies in my browser. I did have to have it mailed to me using my email address as the contact. The server finally did send both attemps on the same day. Strange though, I got my second request before my first. As far as me changing my password, that's not true. I kept the same one from the day I joined and never changed it. I did think for a while that just maybe I was just dropped from the system, so I tried setting up a new "hookedonrc" ID and received a response that it was already taken. Finally, I decided to clear all cookies and use the form you have to request log in and password information to be sent to your registered e-mail address. Until I got this all straightened out, the only way I could get to the site was to use one of the thread subscription replies to enter the site. Once there, I was able to post, and do everything that I was supposed to do. So it boils down to me being recognized by the system when I used a post reply from email, but not when I simply tried to log in. Maybe it is just a symptom, and not the cause, but somehow my password was changed, and not by me.

(as i nod to Hooked's responce)
that does sound similar in my case. As stated, I was not able to get onto the site fromteh www.rcu.com, but I could log on via an adress that was www.rcu/forums/ bla blah bla. But I still was not recognized, nor was I able to log in.
Ther hint question came up one day, as you logged in.. about, what a few months ago?!

A couple of nights ago I was loging on ok then couldn't log on anymore.
My browser was trying to load, but couldn't. The only way I got back on with RCU
was to use Google search.
I found this forum, and read about cookies in some of the threads "yum yum, sorry wrong kind", so I
deleted all my temp. and cookie files. That took care of my problem of downloading RCU
the only thing I had to do was enter my password.
Hope this will help others with this problem. So simple, but so complicated.

make sure any bookmarks you have on your browser point to "http://www.rcuniverse.com" only. don't assume that they do. make sure it is exactly like that or type it in your browser manually and re-bookmark it.
we blew out all cookies so everyone had to log in again a day or two ago so the system would remember you again when you visit.

Thanks Marc, I did notice that I had to log in. However, unlike the last time I had a problem, my password never changed. I have kept the one that was sent on my last inquiry.
