Default Site Changes Causing IE6 to Hang

Changes made to RCU during the last 24 hours are causing IE6 to hang. After loading a new page, IE becomes non-responsive for about 5 minutes. I get an hourglass and the screen will not re-paint. This is on a cable modem connection. All other sites are fine. I suspect it is related to the new pop-ups. Prior to yesterday evening I had no problems. I changed the option to disable the new popup's but it had no effect. This is on IE6 running XP.

Ditto. Glad (not!) to see I am not the only one experiencing this problem.

Can you try IE7 or firefox and see if it is specific to IE6 browser for us?

Ditto here too! It is almost impossible to use RCU forums as each one takes 10 minutes to load (if it ever loads!). If it does not load then IE6 crashes after about 10 minutes. It will start to load then just hang then not repaint the screen. If I have something else open (Outlook Express) then that something also has trouble painting the screen as IE6 is using all of the system resources. I do not use Firefox or IE7 (nor will I use IE7).

I am using a P4 2.4ghz desktop.

I also notice the VERY ANNOYING POP-UPs if I go to my Inbox and look at a PM (if I go directly there then it loads but forums are impossible!).

I first noticed it with messages last night. I do not know what was done on the system but it is vertually unusable for me!

I was ( am ) having the same problem with IE6 locking up. After 5 or 6 lockups I just went on with Firefox with excellent results. The problem only occurs with IE.

IE 6.0.2900.2180

Firefox 2.0.0.11

This appears to be an IE6 issue. Can you try firefox or IE7 and confirm it is isolated to IE6 please

IE7 works just fine. Must be something particular to IE6.

Be Glad your not on Dail-up. There's not enough time in the day to search but a few threads.

Anyways, what ever has been done to RCU in the last 24 hours is slowing my computer down to new slows. I've always had to deal with a slow connection but this is painfull.

I will check back in a few days to see if it's better. If not I guess I'll have to wait on Cable or DSL if it ever comes to the boonies.

I disabled in the forums completely. FOr those who had problems please try the non-forum areas of the site and report any issues. There could have been a conflict with some forum code or it could just be the code in general. Until we find out I am leaving it off the forums.
