Default FUT 18MZ Antenna repair

I just noticed that the plastic that my antenna snaps into is broken at the base. Hence the antenna is loose.
Can I repair this myself or do I need to send the Tx to the service center?
One comment. Since Futaba recommends that the Antenna point either left or right for the best transmission why have the antenna move at all? Why not just build one that's more robust and stationary?

Thank you

Were exactly is it broken? I'm not sure I understand.
I have not heard of many issues with the antenna housing.

What is broken is the plastic piece that the antenna is secured to. Its the "stub" that protrudes upwards from the top of the case. The plastic Stem of the antenna is attached to that.. The actual antenna is a piece of wire that is inside the Plastic Stem.

I found a replacement antenna on line. It's a relatively cheap part. Shouldn't be much to replace it.
A better more robust design is what I'd encourage Futaba to produce in their future models.

If the antenna wire is not broken/bent that is no reason to replace it.
The plastice piece can be ordered from the service folks.
I'll get the part number for you and get back.

I have been told that the service department does not sell the piece you need. The TX needs to be sent in to service. Not a bad idea either if you have some time on it. Worth a check over.

Hey Bob, I had the same thing happen on My 18 MZ. I took a 3/8 inch piece of 3/8 brass tube cut a slit down the length and snapped it on. It has worked for about 2 years now with no problems whatsoever.

Rotten,
Thank you for that picture. I ordered a New Antenna from Radio South. It was only approx. 15.00, cheap!
I haven't gotten it yet but it looks the same as what's on the Tx now.

Was your antenna wire broken as well?

Bill,
The wire is fine. It's just the plastic that's broken. I know I could Expoy things together and be fine. Since I found the replacement part cheaply I opted to go that route.

Looked at the Radio South site. Looks like you are set.
