Default 16IZ Antenna Orientation

I just received my new 16IZ and was hoping to get a definitive answer about the orientation of the antenna while flying.
I stand in one position and just turn my head to follow my plane.
I use a neck strap and the transmitter is about waist high and close to level.
I would prefer to be able to fly with the antenna in the "stowed " position to prevent damaging it.
Is this acceptable for good range, etc . ?
. Thanks !

It is best to get it out. On my 32MZ with a similar antenna I point mine out and down at a 45 degree angle.
