Default FM Failsafe

Can Futaba recommend a way to achieve low motor with loss of signal when using FM equipment?

For aircraft, there is no such device for PPM systems.

Go to Tower Hobbies and look on page 209, there you will find a product that is a fail safe for Futaba.

Pile-O-Wood, thanks for the info, found on page 207 in the 2006 catalog.

I am aware of the non-Futaba fail-safe modules, was hoping Futaba would step-up and offer something 'Futaba' to make their FM systems safer.

Futaba does make a fail safe unit, but it says its for car or boat use only. Tower page 202.

Pile-O-Wood,

Thanks for the heads-up on the Futaba unit. The catalog says it's intended for cars, boats and planes, but Instruction Manual (downloaded from Tower) for this unit, model FSU2, says nothing about airplanes. Wonder why.

Hi Bob,

As Bax pointed out Futaba does not make a fail safe unit for airplanes, the FSU2 is for cars and boats only as:

1) the cut off point is 4.0 V. at that low a voltage there's not enough left in the onboard pack to fly home.
2) it has a 2 second lag time before it reads clean again. an aircraft/heli could be in a terrible mess by then.
3) it does not remain at the low throttle setting when it goes to battery failsafe, it comes back on and may have an unexpected result if you assume your model is now throttled back.

I hope you find this information helpful. You can also reach our Futaba support technical team at 217-398-8970, or via fax at 217-398-7721.

Sincerely,
