Dual elevator servos
Hi
I’ve just finished building my first plane that requires Dual elevator servos and have hit a problem.
I have followed the procedure to use a mix from channel 2 to an auxiliary channel (channel 7) for the second (right hand side) elevator.
The elevators work perfectly in sync, both going up at the same time and both going down at the same time.
However when I operate the rudder the right elevator servo goes crazy!!
I am using a FF9 Tx and 138df Rx.
I swapped the Rx to a 168df with the same result.
I have swapped the servos over (left to right) with the same result except that now the left servo goes crazy.
I have plugged an old servo (not fixed into the plane) into channel 7 and get the same result.
It seems that whatever servo is plugged into channel 7 is getting some sort of interference from the rudder servo.
Do I really need a 9 channel receiver to do this properly or is there another answer??
Thanks

RE: Dual elevator servos
hi,
why don t you plug the two servos on the same chanel with a y harness?
have you triyed another rx?
(i assume that there is no ruder to elev mix active)

If I use a Y lead I would loose individual control of the two elevator halves.
As I said in the post I have used two different receivers with the same result!
I don’t believe I have any other mixes on, but that’s a good point and I will have to check to be certain.

RE: Dual elevator servos
Hi Don,
From what you are describing it sounds as though you have another mix affecting your dual elevators. I would suggest going into a blank model and set up ONLY dual elevators. Try it out afterward and see if there is any interference with the rudder stick. If there is not, then it is something in one of the mixes on your original model.

I think that I have isolated the problem. I created a new blank model (no mixes at all).
I set up the dual elevators and they work fine, just like the original model.
I tried the rudder stick without the servo plugged in, no problem, I plugged the rudder servo in and the problem came back!
I then tried three different quite old servos plugged into the rudder channel, not one of them duplicated the problem.
This leads me to believe it’s the rudder servo itself that’s causing the problem, shame because it’s a brand new servo.
Would you agree?
Thanks
Don
P.S. I should point out that they are all Hitech servos on 6V.

I am now more confused than before. Last night I tried to confirm my theory that the rudder servo was at fault.
I plugged it into the rudder channel in a receiver in one of my other planes and it worked perfectly with no interference to the elevator servo?
I then plugged the rudder servo from that plane into the receiver of the new plane and again no problem!
It seems that the problem only occurs in the newer plane with that servo – any suggestions??
