Hi Big_Bird,
All of Futaba's computer radios have a "backup" battery, whether eprom or lithium (9Z), it is recommended that you send your radio in to be checked at least once every 3 to 5 years to have this battery checked by our technicians.
I hope you find this information helpful. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at 217-398-8970 for Support, 217-398-0007 for Service or via fax at 217-398-7721 or by email at [email protected].

Eprom is not as Battery, it is programable chip and does not need a battery to keep the information, the only Futaba radios that need memory battery replacement is the 9V and 9Z taht have a lithium battery.

Alfredo, thanks a lot for your answer.
Krysta, I am in agreement with you that these radios need to be sent in periodically for a check up.
I received e-mail on this subject which states that Futaba uses an eeprom (electrically erasable programmable read only memory) non volatile memory integrated circuit (chip) in the 7UAF and 8UAF. Of course, this is not a memory battery. When the 9 volt battery is removed the radio retains it's programming and that there is not a memory battery in these radios.
If I have gotten the wrong information then please correct it.
Thanks,
Ken

Hi Ken,
I am sorry I was not clear on my first answer earlier.
No, the Eeprom is "not" a battery, but it is a memory chip, so removing the transmitter battery will not harm any programming that you have in your radio.
And yes, it is still recommended that you send your radio in for a check up every 3 to 5 years, so that it can be checked to make sure that it is tuned correctly and there are no other problems with it.
Again, I apologize if I mislead anyone with my original statement, we all do of course know that an Eeprom is not technically a battery.
