Compact magneto
#2
I am sure the very large producers of flywheel mags for most engine could easy do so. But the reason they do not is because they want /need enough weight in a flywheel to make it possible to start most engines. The flywheel once put into motion keeps the spinning motion long enough to keep the engine going smooth enough to start. Also a certain amout of flywheel ...makes for a smoother Idle.

I'm wondering if a small compact magneto could be made for these small gassers we are starting to see.

It seems Zenoah was pretty good at reducing the size of the flywheel on many of their models, particulary the ones with the flywheel in the rear shroud.

The Zenoah did /does have smaller flywheels. They have a double throw kinda heavy crank fthat helps the flywheel effect needed. Darn good engine....they last forever if taken care of. Capt,n
