Hi All
I am building my first r/c gas engine and I am wondering how badly I got ripped off . I bought a new CRRC-PRO 45electronic ignition off of eBay . The item that arrived is not the same as the one pictured in the ad . The ad was for a black unit and sensor in a separate bag and I got a chromed unit with the sensor in the same bag . Could someone please tell me the difference between these two units . I did a search and the chrome unit is mentioned here but not much info is give . One person said that the chrome unit has no auto-advance . Is this true ? If there is no auto-advance I could use it to rebuild an antique outboard . If ithas an auto-advance Iwould use it on the r/c engine . Any advice would be appreciated . I am just dabbling at this point and I know that the CRRC ignition does not have a greatreputation here . I just want to play with my toys . ..... D.J.

That they are both identified as "GF451" on the bags suggests they are the same. Maybe they just changed the case color. Have you gone back to the seller and asked them? Auto advance is really just important for starting and idling. Are you hand starting the engine? You could still use the ignition and couple an advance mechanically. If you paid by PayPal, you have recourse if you got the wrong thing and choose to return it. Like W8YE says, you shoulda, but still coulda, bought an RCEXL. Just my random thoughts on the issue, FWIW.

The black one is the original and hasfixed timing, it should be timed at 20-22 degrees BTDC. The one with thenickle plated ABS case is the newer version (not the latest version) and it has an auto advance feature, it should be timed at 28-30 degrees BTDC. Both of them will work but neither has proven to be all that reliable or robust, both are genuine CRRC Proreplacement parts.
w8ye is right, the much better choice would be an ignition from Rcexl timed at 28 degrees BTDC.

T.O.M. I want to thank you for all the great ideas & actual findings that you have posted here for a long time now. Some of us just assume that you will/can and are willing to take so much of your time and do what you do ...very good. I for one want to thank you again for trying to help us figure out what methods work. Best Regards, Capt,n
