You should try to make a living providing products and support in the hobby industry and see if you feel the same way. DLE has ceased selling their engines to all Chinese wholesale and discount outlets.
Not for me. Its like any other niche market and these days tough to break in to. The good thing is new folks much more talented than I always do and prove that it can be done.

While its easy to hate the large distributors/retailers if it weren't for them some of us would discover it to be a rich man's hobby. Personally I like the Chinese products I've obtained lately much like I recall learning to like Japanese products years ago. Its neither of their faults that caused the decline in American ingenuity or production. Someday they'll get their turn at that too.

Why anyone would disdain the orientals while driving a BMW is beyond me. Wonder how many foriegn parts and chips are in my Ford pickup?

Regards,

Clay

Everywhere I go on the web or to a hobby shop, this engine is listed for $269. Going to Tower Hobbies, I can get it for $219 if I am a member of their Super Save Club ($9.95 per year to join) which I am.
A little help please. I'm a member of the Tower Hobby Super Save Club but I cannot find a way to get the $219 price. Can you point me in the right direction please.

Thanks

Thanks! Ijust figured it out. It is the $50 off of $250-299 code that works for members.

Non-members can still get $30 off with the code 010AD

I don't think there is anything top secret about the members discount code, which for that price bracket is 014T6

That makes sense. Now, only if they were in stock

I can't get Tower or any of the Great Planes related sites. Hangar-9 and Horizon still work.

That is just sad! Sounds like the job is all about work, What is this world coming too? Hey have you tried your own labtop under your desk? I tend to take my laptop everywhere except places that depress me, When I am depressed I tend to spend more, I ended up with two of everything out of Tower last time I was at a wedding!

Well, I actually have it pretty good. I usually work from home four days a week. I'm in on Mondays and at home the rest of the week. I came in today because of the free office holiday lunch! I'm still stuffed! While I'm at home, I have my home PC and my laptop on a KVM switch and can swap over to my home PC if I need a Tower Hobbies fix!

So this hobby has come to be about little more than where to get the cheapest parts? I can now understand why so many are unwilling to move up to larger and better flying models. I can also now understand what differentiates those that fly well from those that fly "sport".

I don't remember a time when for the most part, it wasn't about the price of parts and equipment. I remember clearly in the early 70s when the whole discounting trend hit the hobby ... so its been with us for quite some time now. Have seen several waves of "lower cost" equipment coming into the hobby .... brands that included OS, JR and Futaba to name just a few. These were once low cost imported alternatives to what were more common USA brands. Now these are mainline brands.

I've also known quite a few people that flew on a budget and were expert pilots. I have also known people that only bought the "name brand" expensive equipment and they couldn't fly worth a hoot. Its about stick time, not $$$ spent

Cheap has been a factor for many years.

I'm not old enough to remember earlier

I remember along in the early 50's that the OK Cub engines were innovative at a low price and gained a good market share of the engines.

1957 was a great year for the Cox Babe Bee .049 came out at something like $3.49 and set the hobby world on fire. You could almost afford fly away free flights?

Also 1957 and the McCoy 35 Red Head Stunt came out for $6.95. Another big market share gain.

And cheap was around long before that.

Hi there folks, could anyone please 'splain to me the difference between a DLE 55 and a DLA 56. I was on another website the other day (can't remember which one) and a raging debate was going on over this. In pictures they seemed to be identical.

Except for basic layout they are far from identical, even in pictures. There are threads about them in this forum but this isn't one of them.

That was a waste of words. Most people get into this hobby because they love it. Also some of the same people need to be carefull on spending to keep going on fixed or low incomes. I am sure some sell other non RC items they do not needto finance this Hobby. Right now its hard to sell much anything...yard sales ect things do not sell. So "Hey man" be glad you can afford what you want! Capt,n

You got it! I spend countless hours scouring the web for the cheapest parts in the most hole in the wall places on the web. So much in fact that I have precious little time to fly! It consumes all of my time! Its a sickness I tell ya!
