Default dle 30cc question

HI,

I am news to gas engines, and have read that i need to loop the vent line over my tank, is this a must? or can I just take the vent line out from the tank to the outside of the cowl, or can i loop it inside the cowl and then take it out?

Please help, thanks

Well, I can't say for sure, but I didn't put a loop in my vent line and my plane will dribble a bit of gas when I turn it upside down and then back upright. So, I get to take it apart again and do it right...add the loop.

I don't have a loop in any of my gassers. I just put a plug in my vent hose when I turn mine upside down for anything. But being that I always defuel mine before coming home i don't have a big issue with it. Either way is fine. Am getting ready to put a Waco together with a DLE 30 that I might do a loop for the vent just to try and see the difference.

Yes, but there's no plug in the vent when you are flying, right? That was what my 'test' was about with turning my plane through various attitudes by hand...to see if it is going to vent gas when flying, not to see if it will it drip during storage.

I, too, plug my vent lines when not in use...and the plugs have a red "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" flag attached, as well.

with the engine running it'll be pulling air through the vent line, there is NO WAY for fuel to get out

In theroy you are right. But say you have the airplane real high & cut the throttle & start doing some maneuvers (possibly inverted sometimes)that places a good flow of air near the vent...fuel can be sucked out into the airstream from the vent to your tank Capt,n

Click on the gas engines hierarchy and you can see where everyone else asked questions.

Then at the top left click on "NEW POST"
