Evolution 40GX Info? Sparse!
Looking at picking one up if I can finalize some funds.
I know it's a tad heavy but not concerned - Would like to hear some updated tidbits on usability/reliability what props she's happy on for general IMAC and limited 3D.
Anyone have any decibel readings or general comments on noise level with the Evolution Pitts style muffler or Bisson side mounted Pitts style?
Thanks!

the 40 is not bigger, it just has some more cubic inches. Handling and reliability has remained the same, but power to weight ratio has increased significantly.
Used with a tuned pipe, the engine is awesome.

We have one my mate's 82" span ESM Hawker Hurricane, Good engine. very reliable. at 40:1 it does still spit out a fair bit of black oil making a mess of the model. It's the same fuel I run in my SPE 40cc which burns nice and clean so not sure what's going on there, the engine has had about 1 liter of fuel through it now so we are hoping it just a byproduct of the bedding in process.
We had the same problem regarding the lack of info out there on these engines, but what little we did find, it was all good, so he took the plunge. He has been very happy with it!
The hurri found the ground before the wheels did and so it whould be all fixed in the next few weeks.
Thanks
dave

Sorry about the Hurri mishap. The black will disappear in time. After about 10 liters (or two gal's), rinse the muffler with lamp oil. Plane should stay clean after that.

Roy,
The running in process is done long before the black goo stops oozing out the muffler. Cleaning the muffler does not speed up the running in things, but the plane stays clean because all the goo is removed from the muffler, and no new is introduced. I have had this experience on several occasions where the pilot used a smoke system that cleaned the muffler.
The exact time when the engine stops producing the black deposits is not known however, but my experience is about two gallons of fuel at which time a muffler rinse will keep the plane clean.

Ahh that's the problem with warbirds. The matt paint will not come clean once it has been covered with the black oil. but not to worry, in this case, It's a good bit of "real" weathering
It's still well short of the the 10 liter mark, but It's almost ready to go flying again so we'll see how we go. We have both meen quite happy and impressed with the engine.
Thanks

Blue I have my 35 in a Great Planes Super chipmunk that is an 81 inch wingspan and is in the 15 and a half pound range. And it has all the verticle that i could ever want. I am turning a APC 18x8wide blade and the engine has no issues. I don't fly it but 4 or 5 days out of the year but when I take it out it starts easy everytime. One of my better running engines. You will not be dissappointed.
