Default DLE-20 Spark Plug Gap ?

Well you guys helped me out with the spark plug cap problem on my DLE-20.

Now hopefully somebody can tell me what is the best " gap " for the spark plugs on the same engine ?

Thanks again fellows, for your help .............

.016"-.022". Most people gap at .018" but the RCEXL ign is a pretty strong ignition, so you're good in to the high .024"+

Thanks for the information. I have also been advised to trash the DLE spark plug and replace it with an NGK-CM6, as the DLE plug is totally unreliable. Any comments ?

Correct. Don't even mess with the stock plug. Most of them will cause you to pull your hair out trying to get it to run properly with the stock plug! NGK CM-6 is the plug to buy. On that note, every single CM-6 I've bought (10+) in the past has been correctly gapped to .018" out of the box.

Gap is totally unimpoirtant, anything from .020 to .060 or more will work just fine...Try it and see for yourself...

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh I believe that gap is important as the plug that came with my engine was closed up and had no gap at all !! Now do you really think the engine would run ?

That gaps going to become important once your plugs been in the engine awhile. Carbon residue does not a great spark make

An #11 X-Acto blade is an excellent gap feeler
Just about the right thickness
Pretty much everyone has one of those somewhere in the shop

Seems like the #11 is the most popular and about the only ones I use. Usually buy them by the box .........

They're .020 thick so those would be perfect!

i have always gaped the plugs at 20 an they work fine. never had to repase a plug in an airplane engine. i know it isnt aircraft , but i have 13 chainsaws,,,1 is a stile. i havent replassed more thaN 4 plugs in years of sawing. i heat with wood and sell lots and only the sm,all saws hav ever need a plug. these huskys just run and run. nor have i ever had to adujust a carb once they are set right. i jusd used a 20 year old model 38 huskey for the first time in about 3 years. it was put away full of gas,,i just shoke it to mix the oil and it started just fine. break in ?,,,let them warm up for a minute and saw away. my gigantk huskey , the bigest production saw there is gets used maybe once a year,,,it starts right up and is put away,,,nuthing special. 5 of my saws are sitting out in a rain storm on the back of one of my farm tractors right now,,,they will run perfectly when the rain stops. what im trying to say,,,dont get all hyper asbout these small 2 cyl engines,,,threy dont need all kinds of b. s. to keep them riunning,,,i would never leave my sig or balsa usa gas cubs out in the rain,,,hehe. both have 20 tyear old gas engines that have never had more than a squirt ov syn motor oil in them when put away for the winter asnd both sdtill have the original plugs,...nor have i ever adjusted the carb jets since the first flights. tinkering has caused many good engines to go bad ! i use syn oil at 10 % morew than the raecomended ratio,,,my 2 cents,,,hehe

I thought the Stihl 090 was the largest chainsaw ? We make race twins with TWO 090 cylinders...
Good information on the plugs...

I have a ECHO straight shaftweed whacker that I bought new in 1983. I run it about an hour each week during the mowing season. Almost all of the time it is running at full throttle. I use OPTI II oil, and have since it was new (Optimall was what is was called when new). I'm on carb kit #3 and spark plug #2. 0.020 gap seems to work for me.

I simply follow the instructions for the engine and use a gap gauge purchased from the local auto parts store.

You left too wide an opening to pass up. Pun intended.

Mate, "Tired Old Man" is a misnomer for you, "Dirty Old Man" would be more appropriate
