Default Prop for D&B 3.7

http://www.dandbengines.com/db37.html

Looking for a good prop for this engine.

My propblem is that the center shaft is 3/8".

Most props I want to use are already drilled for 10mm (Zenoah's)

I have put a VESS on this and like it, however was scared to keep on due to the prop adapter was crushing the wood, etc........

Am I going to have to sacrifice a good prop and didicate to this engine and oversize the hole and make/buy/get an adapter to go from 3/8"ID to whatever size OD i drill at?

I should also say that I am now using a TopFlight 22/6-10 on it now.
Being flown on a Balsa USA Ercoupe.
Does fly it, but the VESS and other props that I want to try are better...IMO

If you drill it straight, you can bush it. If you dont like the price of wood props, then forget carbon fiber props.

In dont mind the prices, but will I have to make my own bushing?

I had a machinest try to make a 3/8"ID to 10mmOD and said it was to thin walled to try and do.

That why I said need to sacrifice a prop (Only use on the Coupe) and drill a bigger hole then 10mm.

I could not use on my Zenoah's if I over drilled for this purpose.

Thanks

Here's mine that I made, the 3/8" bore is only as long as it needs to be, the center bolt is 5/16".

Is that from a D&B?
Looks like mine!
You turn that down on a lathe?

call ken baker at Ridge machine, hes the builder of these fine engines. A 22X10 is the prop to run on the 3.7. I have three 3.7's ands two 5.1's. He can supply you with the bushing you need.

Correction, the center bolt is 1/4". Yes it is a D&B51, the 3.7 is the same. I turned it on a lathe. Not sure why Ken doesn't modify the design as you mention every prop worth using today has a 10 mm center hole. I got about five flights on the engine before the airframe met it's demise!

I have used the K&S brass tubing for bushings. Sometimes I have to shim the last bit with a piece of paper. The paper holds up well.

I have contacted Ken via email and here is our correspondance.

Russell
The Hole needed for the guide is 3/8 " I put a bushing in most props.

Thank You
Ken

I have a (Bought used) D&B 3.7 on a Ercoupe and flies it nicely.
However I am wanting to get a different prop and am wondering what size of CENTER DIA do I need to get for the prop.
I see in your SPEC sheet for this engine it says 1/4 28 threads, so do I need to find a prop that I can drill to a 1/4"?
I have checked with some maufactures and most 22" props ( the ones I am wanting to try) all have 10mm center holes.

Any help/suggestions would be helpfull

Roger Russell
He did not mention having any spacers for this purpose.
He mentions using them.

Again THANKS to all the suggestions.

Roger
