Being new to this stuff, I was was wondering what type of fuel mixture do you guys use for your converted weed wacker 26 cc type engines. It has the old walbro type carb on it with no modification to the piston or cylinder. The manual calls for a 16:1 ratio of fuel and oil. Any suggestions for the type or grade of gas and ratios?

I'd use an 89 or 93 octane unleaded gas. For oil use a good quality petroleum based 2 stroke oil for break in. In my gas engines (zdz and 3w) I use a 40:1 mix for breakin. But I would do as the manufacturer recommends. After break in you can switch to a synthetic if you want.

DITTO ON THE 32:1 RATIO. THATS 4OZ. OF OIL TO A GALLON. 16:1 IS WAY TO RICHON THE OIL. THAT WILL FOUL THE PLUG PREMATURELY. START OUT WITH THE 32:1 AFTER A COUPLE GALLONS, LEAN OUT TO 40:1 YOU WILL HAVE A WELL BROKE IN AND RUNNING ENGINE. QUICKSILVER BY MERCURY MARINE IS A GREAT QUALITY ASHLESS OIL AND $2.99 A QUART.

I am running way too much oil in my gas/oil mix I see now. The engine is already well broke in. (after many trims on the yard) I think I will use the 4 oz. to 1 gal. of gas and see how that works.
Thanks again Tom (onewire)
