Default DLE 15cc?

An active pattern flyer in my club was discussing his DLE engine that was being serviced. I brought up the issue of how much I wish they would produce a 15cc version. He stated that it is in, or past the design stage. Do any of you who are "in the know" have any knowledge of this?

The reason why is there are many small airplanes a 15cc engine would work good on. There is already smaller ignitions designed for smaller engines. It seems Glow fuel is a lot more expensive over gas. Options are changing !

I have an RCGH 15cc and a NGH 9cc. They both came with the standard RCXEL ignition. I sure would like to get one of those small ignitions. Who makes them?

+1 captinjohn
I'd love to see a 15cc gas engine that would be a drop in replacement for a .90ci 4 stroke[8D]

A destroked 20 cc ( I have 2 - they are bullit proof and powerfull) will be as heavy as a 20cc and less powerful.
I entirly new , lighter crankcase and cylinder will be needed.

Is that fact in the "rumour mill" chatter?

Nothing from the "rumor mill", but I couldn't agree more. Making a smaller displacement engine a waste of time without significant corresponding size and weight reductions! If they can do that and keep it reliable, bring it on!

A 20 cc DLE is really as powerful as 90 FS glow engine. Not more as some claim.

But the weight difference makes the glow engine a better "performer". The glow engine is lighter.

But still , why would DLE market a 15 when they are selling a 20 as fast as they can make them.

It is not going to be better in any way, plus less powerfull and a poor performer ( weight).

Same goes for a 35 , when they are selling a very good 30?

35 will be available end of June. Its a rear exhaust so ideal for pattern airframes and 25% scale with a pipe tunnel.<div>
</div><div>I have no knowledge of a 15cc. AS far as I am aware, DLE was not going to go smaller than 20cc on single cylinders and were instead busy with a 30cc twin that is due in August</div>

Hey captinjohn,
It won't make no difference. Something else will be wrong, too big, too heavy, too slow, too fast, etc. etc.

I'm not buying that at all, no disrespect.. My good friend is flying a Funtana 90 with the DLE20, 10 pounds 3 ounces.. He is swinging a 17x6 at 9000rpm on a pipe, he is trying different props to get the RPM's down and the plane has goobs of power to do any 3Dmaneuver he wants.. Put a 90 four stroke in it and the plane would be a dog compared to the 20...

I bet that rear exhaust is more powerful than the side exhaust with a Pitts style muffler....

This is all great news. especially the twins and small ignitions. That 35 R will be a great engine for inline water cooled warbirds.

Exchange the pipe for a muffler then do a comparison in a faster airframe. This application is where a good 91fs will be as powerful with less weight.

No it wont be, not even close you dont have to turn the 20 up to super high rpms to make power you just have to prop it right i.e. higher pitch a satio 125 is only rated at 2.2 where as the dle is rated at 2.5 so actually its more powerfull then a 125 fs actually own one before making such bold statements.

A 91 4s will NEVER compare to a 20cc gas engine.

Actually the dle 20 is about on equal terms as 20cc glow 2 stroke.

The key of the comparrison was in a much smaller faster airframe. Anyway a 91fs is even less than a .91 two stroke, add a pipe to that and it becomes equivalent to a 1.20 FS.

Actually its close but theoretically it can't be equal. But it surely should be more than a 4 stroke of the same size.

Just remember that while the DLE 20 is spinning a 17x6 to 8,000 rpm, it also does it effectively at 4000 rpm. You can say that a 1.20 OS can turn the same prop at the same rpm, but you had better like to fly at full throttle. Torque is what a propeller uses to pull an airplane.
So yes, a 1.20 2s can have the same power, but ONLY at full throttle.
