DLE 30 vs PTE 36R
I am looking for a gas engine to go on an 80" Extra 260 that has a flying weight of 14 pounds. Up to this point I have run it with a Moki 180 Glow with 18x8 prop. I am interested in going to gas on this airplane.
The two motors I am interested in are the DLE30 and the PTE36R.
Any comments or experience with these two motors on which one to purchase?

But I'm curious why only these two? For about the same money you can also get a Mintor 33 and RCGF 32, and for just a bit more, the OS33GT is right there too. Of all these, the OS33Gt is a real stump puller. I run mine with anything from an 18x10 Mezjlik 3 blader to 20x10.5 apc.

No reason that I can come up to why I picked only those two. I guess just trying to make it simple. I will consider the OS, but have not researched how this engine runs. How do you like your OS? Is it worth the extra money?

Given the choice, and all else being equal, I would likely be looking for a rear exhaust set up when shopping for a new engine. They fit into narrow cowls better, and there's no extra expense for a wrap around Pitts muffler (and it's associated weight). Just me...

The ZDZ40cc is a rear exhaust engine but I couldn't get the ponies out of that one and it is rather heavy.
The OS33 GT is a fine engine, maybe the best of the 30cc class, but it is side exhaust. I use a return to center header and pipe on mine. As I mentioned above, I use the 18x10 3 blader from Mejzlik, and several other apc or wood carbon hybrid props that I make. The engine is happy turning a 19x11 or 20x10. My current favorite is a 20x10.5 apc. I use a starter to get the engine going the first of the day and then hand start after that. The OS has good field manners, throttleability and power to burn

EKIR if your look to fly some 3d with this plane then forget the 30-40cc engines and just install a dle 55. not much more weight than the the OS33 but way more power!

12 pound plane hauled around by 35 pounds of thrust....just right!! Redwing had the DLE55 on sale for 360 I think....

Great idea with a 55!
I currently fly 3 planes all around the 14 lb range and the dle 30 does not give the plane unlimited vertical, It will almost hover. If your looking for unlimited vert, go with the os or get wild and mount a 55 on it If you have prop clearance.my 2 cents

I have a SYSSA 30 in a 14.5lb Giant Sportster. Great sport plane, with really good, but not unlimited vertical (APC 18x6W).
Also have a DLE 30 (w/Jtec wrap around Pitts) on a 13.5lb Katana w/80" wing. It does have unlimited vertical, but just. Accelerating out of a hover is slow. BUT, that has an APC 18x8W on it, is not likely the optimal prop for vertical. For that I think it would do better with a 19 or maybe 20x6 on it.
