Taking off the choke or even throttle spring seems like a reasonable idea at the time, however I've ended up with worn throttle bodies due to this that then leak air and the carb is ruined. The spring holds the shaft tight and you don't end up with this situation. More of an issue with the throttle than the choke, but still not a good situation. Just my experience. I'm still running several of these engines and haven't had any trouble. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket.
